6500 Slide - Screen Flickering ???

I have just received a replacement 6500 Slide and have noticed that when navigating through the menu and function screens, and opening and closing folders, I get white lines occasionally flashing across the screen.

Also, when accessing the functions from the menu screen I get the occasional menu icon flash up quickly in the background when it changes to the new screen.

The phone has the latest firmware v8.30, and I have reinstalled the firmware using the Software Updater thinking it may cure the problem, but to no avail.

My previous 6500 Slide had build quality problems, namely the keypad kept getting scratched in use. However, this replacement one is a 100% better in build quality, but now has this other problem.

Could anyone shed some light on what this problem might be, and perhaps suggest how I might be able to cure it. I'm not sure if it might be hardware or software related as my previous 6500 Slide running on the previous firmware version never had this problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

That sounds like a hardware problem, like a loose screen connector to me.

If I was you I would tell them it's not good enough and demand another.

Was it brand new (supplied sealed in a nokia box) or re-conditioned (supplied in a plain box)?

Are you in the UK and was it replaced by your network? If so was it O2?

Re: 6500 Slide - Screen Flickering ???

Hi to all,

I think it is a common problem with the N5610 and 6500 Slide - as it exactly the same that happened with mine. The screen flickered when top slided.

I sent it to the Nokia Care Centre and they had to replace the LCD - since they said that the LCD connectors worn out. So for the new one they had to extend the LCD connector so it would not likely happen again in the future.

Hope this helps =)

Hi PsychoMania

I live in the UK and my original 6500 Slide was bought sim free from The Carphone Warehouse and came in the original box. This is the second replacement I have had, both of which came bubble wrapped in a Carphone Warehouse box made just for the phones. They told me that I keep the original box and accessories when doing replacements as they only need the phone and battery when swapping them over.

I thought it may be a loose connector, but the fault doesn't happen when tapping the phone or screen several times without touching the keys. It seems as though the screen sometimes can't keep up with what it is supposed to be displaying.

I was hoping that there might be a quick fix soloution, but if it does need to go back I think I'll wait until after the festive period, otherwise they will get sick of the sight of me going in again with another problem. I've still got just under a year of the original two year Nokia Warranty left, so hopefully it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Many thanks.

Re: 6500 Slide - Screen Flickering ???

Now that you've mentioned the CPW I can probably guess what has happened.

They are notorious for giving it's customers badly reconditions phones (O2 do it too). They are known for taking in faulty phones, cleaning them up, reinstalling the firmware and shipping them back out to the next user. They have been doing this for years as a cost cutting method.

Unfortunately there is no quick fix that you can do. The fault may not even be with the screen connector and could be more serious.

What you need to do is return it and demand another replacement. If that turns out to be faulty then return that too.

I'm not sure if this still applies but in the past if you returned a phone three times they had to offer you a new alternative.

Good luck getting it sorted and let us know how you get on.

Re: 6500 Slide - Screen Flickering ???

I've already been through the Alternative Handset procedure, but they only offered me three older phones that didn't appeal to me, so I decided to stay with the 6500 Slide as I've only ever had Nokia's.

One of the alternatives was the 6500 Classic and the other two were the Samsung G600 and U800. I asked them what they based their list on and they said it was the specifications of my current phone. Well that ruled out the 6500 Classic, the Samsung G600 had no video calling and the U800 was just ugly in my opinion. I was suprised that there wasn't a Sony Ericsson in there or that they offered me something like the Nokia 6600 Slide.

Anyway, thanks for your help and I will pursue this matter shortly.

You wuld think that the alternative would be based on price?! All those models are a lot cheaper than the 6500s.

Good luck!
