6300 - how do i turn off voice tags - SO ANNOYING

Now i've got my new Nokia 6300, (of which i must say is NOWHERE near as good as the 6230i & REALLY regret buying this phone).

Anyway, does anyone know how to turn off the voice tags when connected to a bluetooth headset?

A lot of people are saying the same things.

The 6230i was very popular with business users, and despite a few niggles here and there was a good all-round phone. The 6300, by comparison, seems to be mainly designed as a phone-come-media-player; it does not have the same robustness as the 6230i and it suffers from low internal memory (about 7Mb compared with the 6230i's 32Mb), a number of issues with connection to headsets and car kits, and also with the synthesised voice-dialling system.

Lots of mobile networks and high-street retailers are touting the 6300 as a successor to the 6230i, unfortunately it is anything but.

Found this in the manual.

Voice commands
Call contacts and carry out device functions by speaking a voice command.
Voice commands are language-dependent, and you must set the Recognition lang. before using voice commands. See
"Phone," p. 27.
To select the device function to activate with a voice command, select Menu > Settings > My shortcuts > Voice commands
and a folder. Scroll to a function. indicates that the voice tag is activated. To activate the voice tag, select Add. To play the
activated voice command, select Play. See "Enhanced voice dialing," p. 13.
To manage the voice commands, scroll to a device function, and select Options and from the following:
• Edit or Remove — to change or deactivate the voice command of the selected function
• Add all or Remove all — to activate or deactivate voice commands to all functions in the voice commands list.

But doesn't say anything about turning of the voice tags for names OR calling.

God i so hate this poxy phone.

I'm going to sell this piece of **bleep**, & go back to the good old 6230i.
Never have i regretted getting a new phone so much in my life. Oh mate i really wana swear.

Re: 6300 - how do i turn off voice tags - SO ANNOYING

You guys must have a very different 6300 than I do. Although it is not perfect in every way, I simply love mine. I find it to be incredibly refined with very few flaws. Of course I am running the latest version of the firmware (v.5.5) and mine is unbranded. I think that might make a difference, especially if you are running an early buggy firmware version. Also, I don't use the voice dialing function at all so I can't comment on that. It is true that many people have reported problems with that function, however, I haven't had any need to turn it off or deactivate it.

Of course it would be better if the phone had more internal memory but I haven't found that to be much of a problem since one can expand the memory up to 2 gigs with micro SD cards. The 6230i's expandability I believe is limited to 512 meg if I recall correctly and its screen is pretty bad to put it mildly. Anyway, I simply store and move most apps and everything else I can over to the card memory, thereby freeing up as much internal phone memory as possible which leaves me with over 3 megs free internal phone memory. Hasn't caused me any inconvenience yet, although I imagine if I tried to transfer a file larger than 3 megs via bluetooth to the phone, that might not be possible. I don't see that as being a major problem though.

There are so many things that are new, different and BETTER on this phone compared to older phones (even the 6233 which is not that old), that I really love. For example, the fabulous display that displays 16 million colors and about 14 lines of very sharp text in Opera Mini, and that doesn't turn off too quickly and can be read when the back light is off; the cool flashing notification lights that alert you to unread messages, missed calls, voice mails, unviewed reminders, etc; the way the radio auto tunes itself to available stations; the ability to have flashlite animated wallpaper and screensavers which allows for the display of some great stuff, for example, a variety of nice large animated clock wallpapers (available for free download from the web); the way almost every menu and function is so much more refined than on previous phones; the solid stainless steel case and slim form factor; the overall great build quality (except for the rattling power on switch, which is a very minor issue); the standard mini USB connector, (instead of the horrible proprietary pop port); and I'm sure I could think of more things but these are just some of the things that occur to me quickly.

Try browsing the web with Opera Mini 4 beta 3 on the 6300. It is just amazing what that little screen can do.

Mine is version 5.00 & is also debranded

When i try to update, it says i have the latest version, so how have you got V5.5?

was on O2,

Why would that make it any easier to turn off the voice tags.
It makes it no easier to text with, as the buttons are to close together.
The awkwardness of selecting a contact when sending a text. Which would've been great if you could select the order that they appear, but you cant.

I cant believe Nokia still has the most useless feature of all on a mobile phone on this model? PTT. **bleep** is that all about then.

NOPE! Give me my 6230i back any day...

Thats is the problem, when you have a bluetooth headset connected. You dont have a choice, you cannot turn it off & you cannot deactivate it either.
That is whats so annoying.

If you accidently press the button on your headset, & it picks up the slightest of noises. It recognises the noise as a name & then calls that number. So you end up having called someone without realising it.

If you cough or a noisey vehicle or bike goes by, it finds a number & calls it.

Totally hopeless piece of **@@@@**

I don't think your phone is completely "de branded" if NSU says there is no update to 5.5 for your phone unless it is the 6300b version for which the update is not yet available as far as I know.

Who cares if there is a push to talk feature on the phone. If you don't like it or need it, ignore it, don't use it. Just because it's there doesn't cause any problems for me! I have never tried to use it or had it get in the way of anything.

Sorry to hear about your problem with voice calls and blue tooth head set and voice dialing. Perhaps this may be something that has been repaired or improved in v. 5.5?

Also, could it be a question of incompatibility between your bluetooth headset and your phone? Perhaps a Nokia bluetooth headset would work better, (unless you are already using one).

Anyway, perhaps for a heavy user that is connected with bluetooth headset all day, the 6300 is not the ideal phone as the battery life is not that great, especially with bluetooth turned on all the time.

Re: 6300 - how do i turn off voice tags - SO ANNOYING

I have the same problem with a 5130 xpress music. It happens even with nokia head sets and even with the device locked. I talked with nokia greece and they said to me it cannot be deactivated and that all new nokia phones have the same problem. Too bad... today I'm gonna buy a new phone and I am so unhappy to have to exclude nokia devices from my choise.

I have the exact same problem with my Nokia E51 (with a Motorola bluetooth headset), which is a newer phone. It keeps calling people and it's embarrassing! How can Nokia not fix this?
