Anyone know how to get "my location" to operate on google maps.Realise 6300 is not GPS but sure I read somewhere that your WAP/ network can triangulate your location even though it may be a street or so away from the actual position.

if you have the google maps launched yes i think it is capable of triangulation and using internet connection in combination to get the job done. are you using the internet connection and the google maps are not doing anyting or what happens? for google maps you need the internet connection you know that right?

Thanks for the reply. WAP/internet access ok,all other functions on google maps ok,just when you go to my location comes up with   not available on this device,was wondering if there's anyway to get it working on the 6300.

this prob wont work on this phone as it has no assisted built in gps like some s60 phones do your phone is s40

right! it won't work with gprs also(specially in the case of google maps).But some with some other applications you can retreive a nearby location of a user with the use of a gprs connection.

Thanks for the replies, so take it then that,as 6300 is s40 the "my location" will not be supported so is this a firmware issue if so will nokia do an update to enable this function in the future, if not why make s40 phones if they can't support the latest applications that are increasingly becoming available to mobile phones.

actually Google needs to modify their application a bit so that it could determine the position using the cellular network.Nokia has nothing to do with it.

Thanks but a bit confused now.According to google(see link on second post) they do triangulate your position using your operators network via their base stations without the need of gps.  its the "device" that won't support it, the6300

s40 is soon going to be able to support maps fully now, the new 6260 due soon is one of them so there may be support due soon also.

Thanks for that bit of good news Jimmy,any idea when Nokia plan to allow s40 phones to get full maps compatability,hope it's soon also will they let us know, possibly through these discussion pages.

ok, i read that article.Though it is dated 2 years back.I still can't see this feature at work.Maybe this could be an issue with the network.But, Nokia is certainly not the bottleneck here.For example, i use a chat application which can retrieve location of its users with the use of a cellular network on my 6300 as well in both the ways out.bt yeah nt exactly,for instance 'location of xyz within 2080 meters'

well the newer s40 phones, not all have the capability to use full maps. those that do not come with that ability by now will not be able to do so in the future. at least it is not very likely.
