6300 T9 Problem

Hi all
Hope someone can help

Im having a very random problem with my 6300 (I sooo love this fone otherwise)
It seems that if i type a word that isnt in the dictionary then save that word. It will remember it for that entire message but then will for get the next time i come to use it.
I thought it was me at first just thinking i had used it. This doesnt happen all the time as some words have stayed and continue to.

Example of one. I want to type "probs"
T9 only shows "procr" so i click Spell
Type in probs
For the rest of this message Probs works fine.
Once i sent and then go onto create another txt then on procr available

Any help greatly appreciated
Here is my phone version
v04.70

See if the problem still happens after you did a firmware update with the Nokia software updater.

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

Hi!

I have a slightly related problem... actually not a problem but a annoyance. I bought recently a Nokia 6300 from Spain but I live in Romania, so the T9 does not function correctly for me. Is it possible, and if it is, what can I do to make the T9 function in romanian?

Thanks in advance

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

A nokia care centre can add this to your phone for you. This is the only way to do it.

You can find your nearest care centre here:

thank you. So I guess a simple firmware update wouldn't do the job...

Sadly not. There is another way (changing product code) but it's messy, voids your warranty, very risky and cannot be discussed here.

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

I have the same problem. My 6300 does not store words in the dictionnary. Each time I restart the phone, the words I saved disappear. This is very annoying for street names, nicknames, etc. which I have to spell again every time.

I upgraded to firmware 5.0 yesterday. The problem is not fixed. Any solution?

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

I have discovered a work around to this problem. If you read the manual carefully you'll notice it says something about a ? appearing after the bad word if you spell it then it will be stored in your t9 dictionary for use in another message. If you try to type part of a word then search for it but it's not in your dictionary then the ? doesn't appear meaning when you get the option spell it and it's not saved.

To get the ? to appear just hit the keys until the the dictionary runs out of combinations once the dictionary has no options to cycle through you get the option to spell and it's added permantely.

I usually use 2 for this and it gets to 5 characters before coming up with "Cabba?" i then wipe the word and spell the one i want saving... pain but saves a visit to the care centre useful if you don't have a warrenty.

I also have this problem with my 6300 but the ? never comes up. It just keeps going through the different options for the word. This is ridiculos!! How can nokia have made this mistake? there must be some way to fix it??? Its driving me nuts! It doesnt save any words i input at all!

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

Hello

I have exactly the same problem as above, and don't get the question mark not matter how many times I scroll through! A HIGHLY annoying problem especially when it can't remember names of loved one you text daily!

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

Yes I have the same problem too and wish Nokia would fix it! I had a 6230i before and not only did it remember things and have predictive text, it had predictive words too so would guess town names etc for you.

I love everything else about the 6300 but texting seems like a real step backwards into the dark ages! It can't even remember my name from one text to the next despite having been taught it hundreds of times!!

Come on Nokia, sort it out!

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

If a software update does not work for you then you will need to take the phone back to Nokia.

The 6300 is not one of the best phones Nokia has made, but a newer phone, the 6301, has been announced. On the surface the only thing different between the 6300 and the 6301 is the wi-fi option for VOIP. But instead of calling it the 6300i Nokia decided to use a new model number entirely as the 6300 is not a very good start. (Unlike 6230->6230i).

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

That's not so great when you're on an 18 month contract! I don't understand why I can't download some sort of software update to sort the prgramme?

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

The only software you can download that affects the way a Series40 phone operates is newer firmware using the Software Updater.

If you have done that and it does not solve your problem you can take the phone to a Nokia Service Center, they often have newer firmware releases available than those used by the Software Update tool used by end users.

If they cannot help you then you will have to wait for a new firmware from Nokia that fixes the problem.

Sometimes bugs stay unfixed for years. I bought a 6230 in January 2005 and it had the 255 entry playlist bug. It was present on my next phone 6230i (even after 3 firmware updates) and was only fixed on my 6233 after the 2nd firmware upgdates.

Moral of the story - be patient.

Indeed ...I've got a 2 year contract with Orange and they resolutely refuse to change the phone model. I'm not happy and will consider all options to ensure that I get a functioning phone.

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

Well, I hope you are able to get it sorted out. Keep in mind that the 6300 is not the best phone ever made by Nokia - but I am sure that you will be able to get the phone to work in the end. Even if they have to swap it out x amount of times.

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

Well have been continuing my 18 month contract and general frustration with my phone but I seem to have cracked the memory problem.

I discovered by accident the other day that if you type a word that it doesn't recognise, teach it the word and then type the same word again in the message, even if you subsequently delete the second word before you send it, it seems to remember it.

It's still frustrating but I'm feeling much better now my phone seems to have remembered my name!

Re: 6300 T9 Problem

There needs to be a "Dictionary" folder on your memory card.

The card that ships with the phone does have this folder, but if you have changed the card you may not have thought to create it on the new card.

Menu -> Gallery -> Memory card -> Options -> Add folder

Have just uploaded Firmware 5.52 and am hoping that sorts it-if not I will take the advice of many on here and take the phone in to a Nokia service centre
