6300 + GoogleMaps problem

Hello all,

I'm on Payandgo (O2), have been for years. I used to use Google Maps and Opera without any issues, until that is, I got the Nokia 6300 about six months ago. (Car Phone Warehouse)

I’ve tried all the settings from O2 and Nokia, and all combinations of both and tried several Access Point Name settings. I’ve also tried both old and new versions of both apps but I still can’t get them to work. I can connect using Wap.

Errors I get are:

“Subscribe to packet data” or “This application requires a data connection”

Though if I put the Sim back into my 6230 everything’s ok

O2 haven’t been able to help. As far as they can tell, it should be working.

From reading other Forums, it appears this is an issue with this phone. The closest I’ve seen to an answer is that it’s to do with Payandgo and data subscriptions.

Some say that O2 have now restricted data access to Payandgo customers though O2 deny this, but if true, why can I still use these Apps with my old phone? It’s a puzzle to be sure…

So I’m wondering if anyone has found an answer or at least an explanation.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 6300 + GoogleMaps problem

After a year of faffing about, I’ve found the answer, for me at least. Details below:

Configuration Settings:
Just the normal ones downloaded from O2 or Nokia for Payandgo. Remember to select ‘Activ in all apps’ (settings/configuration)

Add a new Access Point:

(Settings/configuration/Personal Config Sett/Options/Add new/Access Point)
Account name:             ‘payandgo.o2.co.uk’
Access point Settings:
Data Bearer:                 ‘Packet Data’
Bearer Settings:
Packet Data Acc Pt:     ‘payandgo.o2.co.uk’
Network Type:              ‘IPv4’
Authentication Type:     ‘Normal’
Username:                   ‘payandgo’
Password:                    ‘password’ (have to enter twice)

Next is the important bit
Go to (Settings/Connectivity/Packet Data)

Packet Data Conn:       ‘when needed’

Edit Active Access Point: (Settings/Connectivity/Packet Data/Packet Data Settings)
Alias For Access Point:    ‘O2 mobile web’
Packet Data Acc Pt:        ‘mobile.o2.co.uk’

Hit back once and you should see ‘O2 mobile web’ as the ‘Active Access Point’. If not select it.

That’s it. I can now use Googlemaps and Opera on my 6300. Hope it works for you too.

Re: 6300 + GoogleMaps problem

Get the 'contract' settings from O2 or Nokia. If you can access WAP services then you already have them.

Set up the 'Access Point' the same as listed above, but replace with these settings:

Account name:                 'wap.o2.co.uk'

Packet Data Acc Pt:         'wap.o2.co.uk'

Username:                       'o2wap'

Password:                        'password'

Continue with the above settings eg:

                      Next is the important bit
                      Go to (Settings/Connectivity/Packet Data)
                      Packet Data Conn:           ‘when needed’

Edit Active Access Point: (Settings/Connectivity/Packet Data/Packet Data Settings)
Alias For Access Point:    ‘O2 mobile web’
                      Packet Data Acc Pt:        ‘mobile.o2.co.uk’

Hit back once and you should see ‘O2 mobile web’ as the ‘Active Access Point’. If not select it.

I haven't tested these settings with a 'Contract' sim but I believe they should work. Good luck
