6230i receiving Service Reply

I have recently changed my phone from a 6100 to a brand new 6230i which I use on O2's prepay network. Previously the phone was locked to Vodafone but I unlocked it wusing a code.

Everytime I send a SMS message I receive a Service Reply informing me of my new balance from O2. There is nothing new about this and this always happened with my previous phones.

The problem with the 6230i is that when the Service Reply is received, it annoyingly plays the Text alert tone. I'm sure there must be a setting to stop this but I can't find it. I'm sure that I've been through every menu option available but have not found anything to help!

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated

Call O2, they can disable this service for you. There has been a couple of threads on this board regarding this and calling o2 helped them :smileyhappy:

Re: 6230i receiving Service Reply

Hi I too have this problem on my 6280, did anyone find out how to disable the message tone without having to disable the service reply from o2 ? I have always had it on previous phones, and wants to keep it, just without the annoying tone, lol

I've posted instructions about how to do this at least twice...

There is no way of stopping the tone, unless you set your tone alert to nothing, or beep once - that's not too bad, and it's what I did for years.

The only way of stopping it is to Email o2, ask them to disable the Balance Notification Alerts for your number.

They will reply saying it's done, but also saying it's a system setting, so they can't guaruntee all will be stopped... I've never had one since.

Re: 6230i receiving Service Reply

I earlier had n-gage. now i am using N82. in N82, when i send a text message the service reply message is displayed with a text message tone. its really irritating. in n-gage this was not the case, the service reply would come silently.

Is there any way to make the service reply silent? (is it dependent on phone or the service provider?)

Re: 6230i receiving Service Reply

It's your provider sending you the service message each time you use the phone - nobody else, and your phone isn't generating it out of the blue. If anyone can stop it, they can. You just have to ask them to stop sending the service message with the remaining credit notification. If they can, problem solved. If they can't then you'll either have to put up with it or look for an operator that doesn't send a service message out systematically.
