6230i message icon not displayed

This last week or so my 6230i has started playing up.

I can send & receive text messages fine and on receipt of an incoming text the phone give the normal audio alert and box on the screen pops up to say "1 message received".

However after a few seconds that message disappears and the screen reverts to normal but with no message icon in the the top left corner. Therefore if I don't hear the message alert I can't tell I have received a message without going to my inbox to check.

Any ideas why this might be happening and/or will a factory reset solve my problem.

it might be that you have too many messages and if it exceeds the limit at the corner of screen a envelope sign will keep blinking.remove some unwanted messages or take a back up on memory card.it should work and if the messages are not important then just delete all of them and give a factory reset.cheers.:smileyhappy:

Re: 6230i message icon not displayed (now out of memory)

Thanks for the advice. I factory reset the phone and now messages seem to work OK but I now have a new problem which is PC suite calendar synchronisation fails to work citing "The Nokia mobile phone may have run out of memory". It's not a PC issue as I have tried from 2 different machines, also almost half of the phone storage memory is available so I guess it's complaining about the RAM. How do I get to the bottom of this new error ?

Thanks

you have found the fault .cheers.it nothing but the meassgaes might have taken up the memory so when you gave factory reset some space was cleared up if possible get the unit updated at nokia care centre and after that it should work fine.cheers.:smileyhappy:

Re: 6230i message icon not displayed (now out of memory)

Sadly the problem isn't fixed at all and I never had more than 3 messages in the memory anyway.

I cannot sync my calendar at all now despite doing several factory resets. I get out of memory errors and doing a fctory rest does not clear the organiser. Is there anyway to do this (a hard reset) and really start from scratch in case the calendar has really filled up. I have also tried a different memory card so

The phone software version is v03.80 if that makes a difference. If it is the software version then I take it to a Nokia service cntre will they update it FOC or should I just look to get a new phone.

It's pretty frustrating as you can imagine

if your phone is in warranty it will be updated FOC but if it is expired they will charge you for it.you need to check with your nokia care centre.buying a new phone might be little expensive.cheers:smileyhappy:

How much free phone memory does it have? (not free space on the memory card).

If it's quite full try deleting anything large that may be stored in phone memory instead of the memory card. Sometimes clearing out old calendar entries can help too.

Unfortunately there's no way to fully reset a 6230i yourself. A care point can do this but there will be a small charge when it's out of warranty.

Give your nearest care point a call and ask them what they will charge for the reset and update. If you are in the UK try to avoid care points run by the carphone warehouse, they tend to be very unhelpful and pushy.

If you do need to replace your phone the 6300 is a nice low cost replacement for the 6230i.
