6131 firmware

I have a 6131 with v3.50 firmware. I have found out that there is a v3.70 already out. Does anyone know what the difference in the two versions are? The 6131 is supposed to have FOTA, so if the phone does how do I get the new firmware version sent to my phone. Do all 6131s have FOTA?

Re: 6131 firmware

Hey,

Unfortunately, (spelling?) we dont know what the differences in the firmware updates are. I hope Nokia will take care of this, and give an update about the new specifications the Firmware update will give.

I can assure you that if your phone is buggy, the firmware update will probably fix the issue.

About the battery life..the smartphones of today dont last more than a few days (of constant use, music, video, call). My Nokia 3250 holds for 4 - 5 days while I am playing Music all the time.

A tip for saving battery is firstly use a headset when listening to music. When the loudspeaker is on it sucks the battery clean while the speakers work on very low Watts.

A firmware update wont do anything to save the battery. Sometimes its a good idea to have a spare battery in your pocket. They are between 10 - 20 Euros and are very usefull. The new smartphones use basically the same battery, the BP-6M.

Good Luck,

Tal

I don't know if FOTA is already avaliable in 3.50

In v3.70, you can find it here:
Menu/Settings/Phone/Phone updates/Download phone softw.

There are some other preconditions:
- You network operator has to support FOTA
- You need FOTA settings in your phone
- There must be SW update packages available

Most likely you have to be patient...

Here's a suggestion that will improve your battery life: Go to Menu > Settings > Phone > Operator Selection > Manual (and then choose your operator). As long as you don't spend time in areas with zero reception (e.g. subway system) your battery life will improve dramatically. Mine went from 36 to 72+ hours with identical usage!

Re: 6131 firmware

I have a 6131 with v3.5 of the firmware, and it doesn't seem to have support for the FOTA :smileysad: Does anyone know how I can upgrade this phone? Perhaps download a copy of the firmware onto a memory card? (where do I download from, though?

Any ideas? I really want v3.7 for the keypad unlock - but don't really want to have to sell and buy a new phone to do it! :smileyhappy:

Many thanks!

Re: 6131 firmware

The latest firmware will be available from your nearest Nokia Authorised Engineer.

You can find the nearest one to you on www.nokia.com/repair

Re: 6131 firmware

Thanks karim - that's very helpful :smileyhappy: I have contacted the carphone warehouse, but they have quoted 30 pounds for the upgrade (I'll be honest, it's cheaper to sell the phone and re-buy one with v3.7 on ebay!).

Is this really the only way of obtaining this upgrade? I have a greyed out option for "Install software update" on my phone, so I guess it's possible, if that update was made available by Nokia?

Please let me know though, I'm sure I will live with Menu-* if it's really going to cost me that much ... but it is a shame especially when the updates are free for the more fortunate owners :smileyhappy:

Re: 6131 firmware

£300 is quite a lot of money for a firmware update...

have you contacted nokia at all?

Re: 6131 firmware

I'm sure you meant 30 pounds :smileyhappy: But yes, still quite a lot of money. I emailed Nokia on Monday and haven't had a reply yet ... hopefully it's only a matter of time. I have found a great shop in Queens Park that have said they'll upgrade my phone for free. So if I can find a way to get there - that's probably what I'll do :smileyhappy: Still wish I could do it from the comfort of my armchair though! :smileyhappy:

Re: 6131 firmware

I'm sure it's obvious but what's FOTA? It appears I have v3.7 on my 6131 but whatever the relevance ofthat is, I'm now finding the phone very frustrating and I have a couple of days still to decide whether I want to keep it.

Re: 6131 firmware

FOTA stands for Firmware Over The Air. Its a method by which firmware can be downloaded to your phone automatically by your network.

I am getting more info together on this, so will make a post on it in the very near future.

Re: 6131 firmware

FOTA is not very reliable, YET.

If I were you I would stick to the Nokia Service Center, at least untill FOTA is much more populer.

The Nokia Service Center will not take more than 20 Euro on the upgrade, and the FOTA will also cost you around 5.00 Euro. But you might have problems with it. Best to let the profesionals deal with it, untill FOTA is more reliable.

Good Luck,

Tal

Re: 6131 firmware

I do believe that if the phone is UNDER A YEAR OLD or STILL UNDER WARRENTY that the software upgrade is FREE.

I've always got my 6230i updated for free. Can't now as i've just passed the warrenty year, but i have a new 6233 anyway.
Owned: Nokia 3510i, Nokia 3120, Nokia 6230i, Nokia 6233, Nokia N73, Nokia N82.

Re: 6131 firmware

all of you guys or most of you may know the warranty code *#92702689# WARRANTY it show the serial number and other information like life timer and purchase date (that can be edit for the first time and one time only) if i upgrade my firmware (old mobiles like 6230) these information disappear, the serial number became 00000000000 , the serial number will still show from *#06# but not from warranty any more, and so i lose the purchase date and the serial number from there

is 6131 can be updated from the NOKIA dealer without losing the warranty infos???

thanks

Re: 6131 firmware

So has ANYONE been actually able to update 3.50 to 3.70? Cos if FOTA simply doesn't work for anyone then I guess it can only be called a failure.

They should have kept the ability to update it with a PC. Paying 20-30€ for a simple software update is highway robbery.

As far as I know its only under the warranty if there is a fault. If you want the software update because its available then this is not a warranty issue and you should expect to pay for it.

I am interested as to why you make this observation. Personal experience with the 6131, or some other reason?

Thanks,

I have now tried several times to update my firmware on my Nokia 6131 but just keep getting the message "Remote server not responding". I have checked my WAP settings etc and all are fine - even had relacement/new settings sent from Nokia but to no avail.
Has anyone had the same problem or know the answer?
