Before the recent software update, I could load music files, manage them, and play them back easily. Life was good.
Now I get goofy results when I drag and drop music files into my 6085.
When I play them via Music Player, I find them in the Unknown Artist folder, along with any other files I've added since the update. They're mingled together, which spoils continuity. They play one after another so I can keep both hands on the steering wheel.
When I use the Gallery to get to the music, I see the folder I transferred that contains the files. When I open it and start the playback, the Nokia plays the first song, but to hear the next I have to manually advance. This isn't good at 65 mph on a tight curve....
When I view the contents of the memory card via Windows Explorer, all the folders and files show up, including the ones that don't appear via Music Player.
Any ideas on straightening this out?
Thanks in advance.

I couldn't find a way to edit my post, so I'll reply to clarify my question:
By "straightening this out" I meant to be able to display the folder and it contents in Music Player, bypassing the Gallery. I used to be able to do this, but can't figure out how to manage it in the new format.
Thanks.

No kidding. I don't have the nerve/death wish to try it; I was being hypothetical. Too close to texting, which snuffs people.

Thanks. I'll try it when I get home from work and see what happens.

I was able to back up the music files, but when I tried to back up the contents of the 6085's memory, I got an "access denied" message. What's the next step, please?
Thanks.

Never mind -- I used Nokia Suite's backup function to do the job.

I finally got around to backing up the files, and resetting the phone. No go. When I transfer music, it still ends up in the Unknown Artist folder on the phone itself. Yet when I use Windows Explorer, I see the folder among all the other music folders.
I draw the songs from "My Music" on my computer. The record for each file includes the name of the song, the title (I used a freeware to add this); in each of these fields, the name of the song is preceded by a number from 01 to xx. Each one also has the artist, album title, and track number (the numbers correspond to the name and title fields).
I use Nokia Suite to establish the folder, convert the songs to m4a, and drag-and drop them to the phone icon.
Before the recent major upgrade, I used the exact same approach of adding the title field, since they seemed to load out of sequence. Yet I can't get the songs to display in Music Player, and via the Gallery they play one at time.
Any further insights -- anyone?
Thanks.

I did what I could, but couldn't get the results I wanted. I remembered seeing that the Nokia supports mp3 files, so I dragged and dropped the music onto the phone, without converting it to m4a. Lo and behold, everything worked exactly the way I wanted -- right folder, song arrangement, location, everything.
I'd been trying to make the process too complicated, freaking out the phone. When I kept it basic and simple, it worked out fine.
