2310 radio volume

Hello,

I have noticed that after a while having started the radio and not touching any button, the radio volume increases. It goes back down again pushing any button, even if the keys are locked.
This is very annoying, since when I listen to the radio with the phone in my pocket, buttons are pressed from time to time, making the volume switching from high to low!

Is it normal? Does it happen to you, guys, as well or it's a problem of my phone?

Thanks

Re: 2310 radio volume

It could be that your phone is switching from FM to FM Stereo. This depends on the strength of the reception. Does this volume change occur while you are moving around with the phone ?

Re: 2310 radio volume

Ok, this could be. It happens more frequently when I'm moving, indeed.
But at this point I wonder:

1) Why the volume difference between stereo and mono is so high?
2) Is is normal that the phone switches again to mono (with subsequent decrease of volume) any key I hit? Even if I do not change station? Even if the keypad is locked?

2310 is a good phone, but this issue really bothers me!
Any suggestion?

Thanks

Matteo

Re: 2310 radio volume

It is not switching from Stereo to mono.

I realized that when I disable 'Visualisation' ( in Radio Menu ) the sound is very high without waiting few minutes.

I also don't know how to decrease the volume !!!!

Re: 2310 radio volume

That's cool, cafeiine!

Indeed, if I disable the radio visualization, the volume is always in the "high" mode.

So I must think that there is a bug in the software, since I cannot think of any reason for which the volume shall go up and down when the visualization is on!
Strange, I was used to perfect software from Nokia.

And, finally, you are right: the volume is high even when set to the minimum.

Maybe someone know/tried some software update?

Thanks!

Re: 2310 radio volume

I contacted Nokia Support and I went to Nokia Point Services ( in Paris ).

The technician said it's a software problem.

Actually I have version 5.1 on my Nokia 2310.

He said that I have to wait the next version to resolve this problem. So I have to wait, to come back to this point, and the technician will update my mobile.

But I have no date....

May be next month !

Thanks... maybe keep me (us!) updated on when you manage to have a new software version without this bug! It would be great!

Hi,

I have just bought the 2310 and am having this same problem which makes the radio totally unusable as I am unable to listen at a low enough volume.

Have Nokia got a release date for the new software as yet?

It's not what I expect from nokia to be selling phones with software they know is buggy!!

Re: 2310 radio volume

It would seem that i am another victim of the Nokia 2310 "radio volume" problem. I tried the phone out on the day is arrived, as i only brought it for the radio, and after 2 minutes i nearly blew my ear drums apart!!! I have emailed Nokia help and had no response. I have only had the phone 2 days, and until i read this thread, I was in the process of returning this to the CPW for an exchange.

I have taken the advice from an earlier thread, to turn off of the visualisation, and this seems to solve the problem, but this must be a Nokia defect.

CPW have told me to replace the phone but by the sounds of this thread it would seem that all the 2310's like it, so it wont be worth it? Has anyone had their phones replaced and had the problem solved? or do we know if this is a known fault with all the phones?

I personally doubt it is a problem of your phone. Rather, I think it's a "bug" in the software. I guess we all have to cross our fingers, hoping that Nokia will make a new version of the software available soon.

The fact that many people are posting here means that the problem is quite relevant.

Please let us know if they answer you email to the technical support.

Cheers

Re: 2310 radio volume

Thanks for the help on this, I got my 2310 5 days ago and I've now switched the visualisation off. The lowest setting is a tiny bit too loud on the earphones though, as already commented. Perhaps Nokia's software engineers intended for this volume reducer to come into effect when earphones rather than loudspeaker were in use? I hope the problem can be resolved as this is my fourth simple Nokia phone and the operation and menu design is usualy faultless so it's irritating knowing something's not quite right.

Re: 2310 radio volume

This is the reply I got, the general tone seems to be 'there can't be a software fault as we test all our phones', which isn't much help really:

[I]Dear Paul,

Thank you for emailing Nokia Care.

In response to your enquiry, the Nokia products undergo a thorough testing
and quality checks to meet the manufacturers specification before marketing
those products to the consumers. As such , there aren't any known concern
with the Nokia products.

I would suggest that you reboot the phone by turning the power off,
removing the back cover and the battery for the next 5 minutes. Turn the
power on thereafter and activate the Radio feature.Try decreasing the
volume by scrolling the left arrow key further down while listening to the
radio.

Kindly proceed to the Nokia Service Point if concern is still evident along
with your Nokia device in concern and the proof of purchase for an
assessment by our qualified technician for available option.

Please take note that the repair warranty is valid, as long as it meets the
warranty guidelines.

The link below, provides a list of Nokia Service Point locations:

Re: 2310 radio volume

Hello!

I asked Nokia support about this problem (about 1 week ago), attaching a link to this thread, such that they can see how many people have the same problem, and to avoid answers like: "your phone is faulty".

Hope to get an answer soon, I will keep you updated.
