New OVI share layout and functionality

New OVI share layout and functionality

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to express my disappointment with what has been done with the OVI share site recently,

The "New look" has taken away some of the basic functionality that made the previous version so good.

The changes have virtually made the OVI Share site unusable.

* The ability to select and then move multiple media files from "All media" to individual or multiple albums seems to have been removed.

* The ability to select and tag / edit multiple media files has gone.

* Intermittently Map function does not work. Click on map view and you get a default map position of somewhere in the USA, If you move to a known location where your media has GPS meta data, there are no images displayed.

* Viewing your images and then clicking on the image just moves onto the next photo, you can not display the image in anymore detail apart from the approx 1/3 browser window. Previously you would click on the image and you could view it as the original size.

* Slow loading. Resource Hungry, poor quality slide show.

* Location editing look up doesn't work.

* Numerous difference between layout and functions between IE & Firefox.

* Recently uploaded files are not displayed in Firefox.

* Intermittent can not log out.

I have emailed support about some of these issues and they replied "As part of the transformation of OVI Share's layout, we have disabled some features. We realize that some of your favorite features are missing, but don't worry, we are working to improve them."

I am surprised that Nokia would have gone live with a site that the has had some previous features purposely disabled and they are working on improving the disabled features, and these features are as basic as the ability to easily organize you media.

Does anyone else find the same difficulties as me, or am I the strange one out?

Please bring back the previous version.

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

I've not tried it all yet but as I've got pics in US, France and England I find the 'zoom in' feature does not work - just get a blue screen where the maps are.

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

This is a very relevant post. While I do not have login/out issues, I do experience the performance issues, location search failure (I usually end up going out to Google maps now, and pasting the actual address in) and the loss of core functionality in order to get new display features is a dissappointing reality.

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

Personally, I am really happy with the new layout.

The old layout may have had more functions but it was messy and you needed to spend alot of time getting to know how it all worked.

The new layout is really simple so now I have got other family members (who are less techie than me) to sign up and start viewing my photos & videos.

Definate thumbs up from me.

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

No I agree with first post.  Makes me want to go to another share site instead but will take me ages to transfer all the pics that I had posted here in the first place.  Ridiculous that they would disable the basic functions that make this a 'share' site (and not specifically publicise it!)  Loaded all my holiday pics last night, took me about 5 hours just to find out that I now have to move single files from 'all media' in the my holiday album.  I can't even delete multiple files so that I can start from scratch.  What an utter waste of time.  Even the 'add to album' pop-up is a shambles - might look flashy, when it eventually loads on my superfast broadband, but I've not had the patience (or the time) to sit there and watch a computer screen.  If anyone does find this an improvement it's because you would probably do things the long way round anyway.  You didn't have to be a techie to use the site before, but now you do have to be unemployed so that you can sit there and fiddle with pictures all day.  Great job Ovi, you fools.

Sorry, but I'm still very happy.

I have spent the last 3 hours playing around with Ovi Share (uploading, setting up albums, tags, dates etc.). I have to say that I like new layout even more than I did yesterday. It's not perfect but is it is just what I want for storing and sharing photos and videos. In my opinion it is now better than Flickr.

I have 1000s of photos and wanted to use an online service for storing and sharing. The old Ovi Share had all the functions but it wasn't user friendly. Friends I shared with found it confusing and needed me to talk them through how to use it. Because of that I only used it on occasion. Now, anyone can figure it out.

The big problem (as mentioned above) is that you can't move or edit multiple photos. This is so obvious that I'm sure Nokia will introduce this function soon.

Fully agree-dreadful.No multiselect so pics have to be deleted one at a time! Also cant set a filter to see which media are in channels (albums). Also full pics are gone. Really hard to believe. All for what ? Anyone see any advantages ?  I for one cant and am now on the look out for another provider.

I SO agree on the new OVI interface being a total disaster!

The features it had before werde exactly the reasons I ended up using Ovi.

Please Nokia bring the old version back!

Meantime I will start looking for other possibilities to share & store my photos.

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

Agreed!

I'm very disappointed to the new layout and reduced functionality. Especially that:

1) I cannot select multiple photos for tagging, editing or moving, and

2) I cannot decide sort order anymore (newest, oldest, custom).

3) the "folders" in Album-view add unwanted visual clutter

4) there is way too much white space in Albums view with Firefox. Do you design your site for 30" monitors?

Even the smallest web companies are adding features and improving the service with every lauch. What a heck you are doing? Is your product manager using the services herself at all?

Eat you own dog food and make it better. You can do it!!

Btw. Why Ovi forums are hosted in Nokia Conversations? Makes no sense to me. I understood I was using OVI Share. Brand managers, some homework for you too!

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

This missing feature - the ability to sort the photos - is the last straw for me.  I have been debating for a few months about whether to abandon my Ovi Share & move to another provider, and I think this issue is going to drive me to that decision once & for all.  I put up with everything through the changes - the intermittent site availability, log in issues, but I don't think I can take much more.

I guess this is the type of thing one can expect from a free site, that at will they can add & remove features.  They don't have to offer all these cool features to anyone, but I was really loving the enhancements & changes to the site until this point.

Being able to organize the photos is one of the main reasons for choosing a photo site, and without being able to sort them in any fashion (except in slideshows - how does *that* work but it doesn't on the site?) I think I am going to have to leave.

The only thing that REALLY sucks is now having to move all the files, and update 2 years worth of blog entries that link to my photos.  But I guess those are the hazards - you get what you pay for.

I do want to say thank you to Nokia for offering a good, useful product to this point which has given me the opportunity to share my pictures with the world.

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

I have similar issues with the Share functionality:

1. Not being able to select several pictures for adding to library or deleting.

2. Sorting only works on created or upload date. At least possibility to sort on file name is needed, preferably also custom order.

3. When uploading multiple files they come into the album not in selected order, but some arbitrary order (Mac + Firefox).

4.  When adding media to album it always suggest the album first in the alphabet, not last used. If you press enter instead of clicking Add button the window just closes without adding file. Furthermore, the add window opens up in different area of screen, so you have to move the mouse back and forth a lot. It wouldn't be so bad if you could select mutiple pictures.

5. Geotagging not working.

6. It would be nice to see basic exposure data

Anders B

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

Yes, I agree totally with the original poster about the lack of functionality in the new design except some glossy layout gimmicks. The multiple file selction and editting feature is the one I missed most from the previous version. Without the function, i ended up have to edit each and every picture i uploaded for its description, title, tags, location data and etc!! It is too tiresome.

I was hoping they would have retain the previous function and add it batch download AND face detection instead, but no luck! That is totally depressing!! I have since abandoned the service for a while until they are making more changes. It doesn't make sense to use it as it s not relevant anymore.

Uploading pics to Facebook or Flickr would be much more easier and user-friendly besides bigger user base where I can share my pics with.

Oh, addition to the shortcomings in functionality, there is also the improvements on Contacts which is long overdue. Contacts should be integrated with Contacts on Ovi. The new version even removed all the nicknames I created for my contacts and I can only see their email address. How am I suppose to remember my contacts by their email address??!!

Wake up OVI team.....

You mean this has still not been fixed?  I've not logged in to my Ovi for a while as there seems little point until they bring back basic functionality. Clearly they are not listening to their users.  I will vote with my mouse and move elsewhere.

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

Does anyone know if the issue with selecting multiple files from an album has been fixed yet?

This single issue is preventing me from continuing to use Ovi.  I still cannot believe this important and useful functionality has been lost. How very frustrating!

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

I've all but given up on OVI Share,

Just had a quick look and no changes

So I recommend off to Flickr.

Nokia seem to be to busy with their "App Store" side of the OVI site to worry about making the Share side of stuff even slightly usable.

cheers,

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

Found some articles online that would be of interest to you.  Although I find it a bitter pill to swallow that Nokia/Ovi didn't bother telling us about this.  In fact, I think I remember them telling us the exact opposite.

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

How do i go about sharing files with OVi, I have tried sharing an album with someone on OVI via email, but they still have not received it. Whats up with this share site... any ideas as to why its not sharing... the person i am sharing with is an ovi member, but fom what i understand, the person does not need to be in order to view media.

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

My advice to you is find an alternative photosharing website.  Nokia/Ovi have stopped investing in Ovi Share and have also removed basic functionality.  You will get no support from them and you really are just wasting your time.

Re: New OVI share layout and functionality

My own options are limited as Ovi was just about the only one not blocked by my work's firewalls, apart from Facebook.  You may want to try Flickr or Photobucket.  If you find an alternative to those two very popular ones then let us know here too.  I always try to avoid the big names myself.
