Re: Card Errors encountered from ovi store (N8)

I have found a resolution... sort of. When I changed my sim card from serbian to hungaryan and used hungaryan Mastercard, all this in Germany, managed to pay for apps. Probably, the sim card must be from the same country as the payment card.

Re: Card Errors encountered from ovi store (N8)

I just purchased an N8 and am having the same problem.  I live in the country of Bahrain.  My bank is in the USA and my credit cards are from this bank in the US.  I have never had any issues purchasing anything at a store here in Bahrain, on the internet, or anywhere else in the world. I want to also point out that I had the same problem with my previous phone, N86.  The problem only occurs with purchases.  Anything that is free does not have a problem and can be downloaded.

Here is a list of things that I have tried with  no success:

- entered credit card info manual on phone

- updated credit card info in profile on Ovi.com

- cleared cache, cookies, and all other internet/browser specific info on phone

- used different credit cards, 3 total

- tried to make purchase with sim card in phone

- tried to make purchase without sim card in phone

- attempted to purchase a different item

I have searched Google and it seems that a lot of people have encountered the same problem.  However I have tried to correlate them all to see if it could be a possible location physical (i.e. carrier) problem or physical location/bank location problem, which I suspect.  Although I do not think it is a physical location (carrier problem) because if it were I shouldn't be able to download free apps which I can and other people who have the problem can also download free apps.

Nokia, you still have a lot of loyal customer.  Please look into this and resolve.  I would be happy to further assist in troubleshooting this issue, if you would like further details to assist you then please email me to the account in my profile.  Thank you.

Re: Card Errors encountered from ovi store (N8)

There is a solution to this problem.

You must have a BankCard and SIMcard from the same country. Then there is no problem.

I have managed to purchase with hungarian sim and Bankcard from Germany.

Re: Card Errors encountered from ovi store (N8)

Thank you for your reply.  I had read this in your previous post but unfortunately I do not have a sim card from the country of my bank, the US.  And quite frankly that is not a solution from Nokia, that is simply a work around from a resilient customer.   This work around cannot be applied to everyone who experiences the issue, myself included.  Nokia has to correct this issue by allowing the mix of sim and bank card from different countries, if that truly is the problem, which it seems it is.  It should not matter what country you are, what country you sim card is from, nor what country you bank card is from.  I am originally from the US but live in Bahrain.  My bankcard is from the US however I have not lived in the US for almost 20 years and I will probably never have a sim card from the US while I live and work outside the US.  Under the current Nokia system I would never be able to purchase anything from OVI.  This cannot go on like this.  It simply cannot be justified in this day that we live that the OVI payment system requires you to have bank and sim from the same country.  We live in an international world with people and companies doing business and leisure across borders.  I have always purchased Nokia phones exclusively and quite frankly really enjoy their products but OVI is one service that needs to be upgraded to be versatile enough to allow for purchase transactions that support the different technical scenarios involving their internationally roaming clients.  Especially when they are as dedicated to their product as we are.  Otherwise this is exactly how you set yourself up to loose customer base.  By not listening to real problems and actively and effectively solving them to provide a better customer experience.

Nokia  Please read this post and look into this issue because it is definitely an issue and it needs to be addressed properly.  It is affecting a lot of your customers worldwide.  Just do a Google search for "OVI card error encountered"  and you will see for yourself.  Again I offer to be of assistance to troubleshoot this further since I have first hand experience with the issue.  I sincerely look forward to a reply from Nokia Support.

Re: Card Errors encountered from ovi store (N8)

I'm having the same problem. I live in the Isle of Man, I have a Manx sim card, but a UK Mastercard. Nokia support didn't even reply to my first message, now I just get error messages when I try to complain again. It's hopeless. Paypal would be so much easier, I'm never likely to get a Manx credit card, so whilst I live where I live, I won't be able to buy from Ovi. Madness.

Even worse, Ovi is now saying I can't download certain free software as it is not available in my language. Erm.....the software is in English, I'm English and I live in an English speaking country......Just what are they smoking in Nokia HQ? :smileymad:

Re: Card Errors encountered from ovi store (N8)

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing the same problem.  However I am not surprised.  As you probably know by now this is an ongoing issue and it doesn't seem to be getting any attention from Nokia.  I have taken time to describe in detail the issue as you can read from my previous posts and have even offered to be of assistance to troubleshoot this issue but Nokia has not responded to me, to this discussion, or any other discussion that pertains to the same problem.  And there are several discussions on this forum regarding this problem.  I was being optimistic thinking that a company as big as Nokia has a lot on their plate and cannot answer every discussion post.  So I said to myself I will wait until the Anna update is released and maybe the issue will be resolved.  Well that was only wishful thinking.  After the Anna update the problem persist.  I even went as far as contacting the company that creates the app that I wanted to purchase and was told they do not sell directly to consumers and that I have to download it from OVI.  After explaining to them that there is a problem with OVI that prevents purchase of apps.  At this point the person from the company the makes the app devulge that they were aware of this and that they had contacted Nokia and were told that it had been resolved.  Well that was back in May and the issue is still present even after the Anna update.  Somethinf tells me that this issue will not go away as long as you have a Symbian device.  I truly believe that it will only be addressed on the Windows Phone devices.  This is a really sad state of affairs.  Nokia has a know problem, that has been addressed to them not only by their loyal customers but furthermore by one of the third party app companys that sell on OVI.  The issue is spoken of on many different websites by many Nokia users all over the worls.  But to make matters worse it is spoken of time and tiem again on their very own "Nokia SUPPORT Discussions".  I have always pruchased Nokia phones exclusively and was looking forward to purchasing the N9, however with the sad state of affairs that Nokia supports us with I might have to switch my allegiance.  But to be fair I will Nokia another chance and once more state what the problem is, what the circumstances/factors are, and what I have done to try and resolve, and maybe just maybe we will get some resolution.

I live in the country of Bahrain.  My bank is in the USA and my credit cards are from this bank in the USA.  I have never had any issues purchasing anything with my credit cards at a store here in Bahrain, on the internet, or anywhere else in the world. - tried to make purchase without sim card in phone

- attempted to purchase a different item

I have searched Google and it seems that a lot of people have encountered the same problem.  I have tried to correlate their experiences to find a common denominator and from what I can tell it seems that the problems is due to physical location and bank location.  At first I suspected carrier but given the number of people around the world on different carries who experience the same problem I would have to say that it is not a carrier problem.  Also if it were carrier problem it would more then likely also apply to free apps however everyone who experiences the problem is able to download free apps.

There was once person who posted that he had a work around to this problem.  Here is my reply to his work around.

I sincerely pray that Nokia will read this however lengthy it may seem.  But more importantly tkae action and resolve a know problem affecting many loyal Nokia customers.

Re: Card Errors encountered from ovi store (N8)

I have an identical issue myself, i live in SIngapore and have UK bank acounts, none of 3 cards worked.

I've just put in my old (still active) UK sim and connected via wifi and the purchase went through... thanks for the advice everyone who's commented but what a ball ache! Sort it out Nokia, the hours of my life wasted on Nokia forums over the last 12 months with this N8 are truly unacceptable!
