First the N97 software problems, now the N8....
Could it be that there are sabouteurs in the Nokia programming staff?
Could a competitor have gotten to one or more of the programmers in the inner circle of Symbian developers and bribed them to put a few random "glitches" in the firmware?
It wouldn't take much to make the Symbian OS act up.
Even worse, what if it isn't a software problem, but hardware?
After all, the N97's GPS antenna design and sliding (scratching) lens covers are both "Edsel" monuments to bad engineering.
On top of that--the PR fiasco with regard to how they have handled both should make them replace staff beyond engineering.
The factory "fix" for the lens cover and GPS didn't last with my N97 (the GPS still has "fix" issues and the lens is scratched again) and now it is out of warranty.
To add salt to the wound, Nokia keeps sending text messages and emails about "getting more out of your N97" and advertising their newer models (which seem to be just as much if not more buggy than the N97 if you go by the posts on this forum!).
Please Nokia...do something to save your customers and rebuild the reputation that you once had!

I don't know if Nokia have a saboteur in the programming team... I would hope that they would have testing and quality control people looking at the code after the programmers have finished.
However, some of the faults I have seen in my 16 months of N97 ownership seem to show that their testing procedures are sadly lacking in structure, or just lacking completely. The saboteur must be the person who rubber stamps the "Ship it" approval form.
I believe that since OTA and firmware updates have become the norm, Nokia have taken the view that "it can be fixed next version". Just like with Windows. One of the reasons I tend to avoid being an early adopter. That's vaguely understandable, it's desperate catch up attempts having been caught napping by the shiny iphone and the Android invasion.
Why these bugs are then not fixed in the following release, or the one after that, or the one after that is beyond me. Plus failure to publicly accept problems such as the scratched lens and GPS fix issue in the N97 just show an Apple level of conceit.
Unfortunately this forum doesn't help. I've had posts rejected for expressing similar views, this post may well join them. Nobody beyond the forum moderation staff seem to ever read or hear of these problems. They don't seem to realise that the only reason we are here, and expressing our dissatisfaction, is because we know Nokia have done better and would really like to stay loyal. We're giving them a 2nd (or 3rd) chance and still we get treated with contempt. Even ignoring the hardware problems, the contempt shown is enough to make me think very hard before buying another Nokia.
