I like the N97...a lot....despite its obvious beta state. However, one of the things that's constantly putting me off is, that using the built in media player, there's always a break between the single mp3 songs and I find this really disturbing and not quite state of the art anymore. I mean my now 5 years-old Iriver 320 has gapless play, not to speak about most of the recent devices like the Iphone.

Any idea if this might get fixed ?

......am I the only one who has this "problem" ? It's hard to believe that noone else finds the fact annyoing, that there's always a small break between songs, especially when listening to LIVE albums.

Not having gapless playback really REALLY annoys me as well. Just not enough for me to get a iPhone, they're far too common

On my N95 I used an OGG player that supported gapless playback I seem to remember but it meant converting my tunes and I can't be bothered to do that anymore

I seriously doubt that gapless playback will be in the next update, or even the one after that.  People have been asking for that feature for years on many other models and it's never happened.  

As mentioned above folderplay is a the way to do it.  I believe that 1.4 is the latest version.
