Another reset... 3 already, and since one time the numbers desapeared, it have to do an "Hard" reset.
"Other than that perhaps the best option for you is to switch brands to see if the grass is greener on the other side?"
Good point...

Good luck on the other side.
Hope whatever you buy works as well as my 5800 does for me!

Yep the N82 was a very reliable model and was much less sensitive to slower memory cards. Apps being installed to the card didn't slow it down too much at all (but lots of apps can still slow it's menus down).
It also benefited from the fact that it's OS had been around for a long time before it's release.

For me it already does have the software reliability, in fact i've had less crashes (count them on a single hand) with the 5800 than I did with the N82 in the same time period.
Perhaps you just need to change the way you use it? For example only install apps to the phone memory and use the card for data (video, pictures and videos), maps and themes? Give it a shot and see how it goes for a week. Also reset it but don't restore and data as that can restore the problem (use ovi sync for your calendar/contacts).
There is obviously something wrong with you or your phone if you are having so many problems, that DO NOT effect every 5800 user out there.

you see, i dont consider entertainment phone function bugs in an entertainment phone as SMALL things. & i've used samsung i450 WITHOUT ANY BUGS. n i'm totally confident of its music player & gallery functions, as it has not hung on me at all. KUDOS TO SAMSUNG!
so i goes to show that what nokia is offering is more of a half-baked product. imho, there shouldn't be so many resetting / upgrading software. one example is our PC. what's more a PC has far much more memories, programs n applications! can u imagine keeping bringing your PC to svc centres every now n then?
perhaps the QC dept of nokia passes each nokia phone too easily.. would suggest NOKIA aim for a much higher QC pass rate!!!

That are multiple people having the podcasting issue:
/discussions/board/message?board.id=apps&message.i
I believe that this is a firmware issue as well.
I took the phone to the Nokia Care and they blamed the microSD that came with the phone (class 4). I switched it to a brand new class 6 microSD card, did the hard reset and the problem still came back.
Whenever the podcasting app crashes like this (unable to reopen it), it also does the same thing to the web browser which crashes whenever it tries to connect online.
My guess is that it is a firmware issue but the file corruption only happens under some conditions such as heavy podcast usage over wifi or something else very specific which would allow it to happen for some users but not others and still be a firmware issue.
I sure wish someone from Nokia could address this issue. The podcasting feature is the main reason why I chose this phone.
The care point folks have been no help and no one online seems willing to address the issue. Instead most people online just blame the user(s) or just make some other non-helpful comment.
By the way, I also recently have had the icon duplication problem but it only happens with Widgets, not other apps.

Another one...You also have the duplicated icons and Podcasting problem.
I know that we are not the only ones, and lot of people are blame hard Nokia for that, mainly, elsewhere, not here, because this forum it´s on Nokia House...
Or they solve that quickly, or it go be a serious draw back for Nokia name with their first mass market touch phone. The market never forgive and the majority of people it´s not here, around foruns...
To "avegare Joe" it´s just a bad product, and don´t thing about it any more. They change for another one, and until next...

But does that justify a recall which is what this topic is actually about?
I would say no as the minority of users that have major issues are software based. The hardware issues appear to be behind the 5800 now.

i dont think anyone needs to change the way they use the phone. if that's the case, Nokia needs to cite that in the instruction manual. btw, i don't do anything more than using the phone as camera, videocam, radio & music player. i not even into wifi, podcast & gps! that's why i was VERY disappointed & frustrated. HANG ON ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS!
if i have to make so many adjustments to the way i use the phone, i might as well switch back to my good old i450, which i wouldn't even need to count the crashes like you did (a single hand is considered too much, given the period of launch of the phone). based on your feedback, this nokia product is already a failure. i wouldn't even manufacture & sell a product that could hang a few times in less than a year!!!
anyway, i have deleted almost all the comes-with-music music files. still, the player goes silent in less than 30 minutes on 2 occasions. base on what you've said, am i supposed to "change the way i use it"???
