problem with device visibilty in 'my computer' unable to access mass memory or phone memory.

I recently purchased a nokia N95-2 8gb.
I'm running windows vista home premium.
And the current driver i have installed for the portable device is 6.83.31.1. driver date 19/03/2007.

the first time i installed the pc suite software everything worked fine, the phone was connected via usb cable and i could un plug it at any time and the computer would say device connected and show the device in my computer and when disconnected the device would disappear.

however upon re-starting my computer the next day i found that the device was no longed shown in 'my computer' meaning i could not access the mass memory or phone memory directly.

I still recieved the same message bubble saying 'nokia N95 8gb connected accompanied by the little sound and when disconnected the same message bubble saying 'nokia N95 8gb disconnected' accompanied by the little sound.

When i check the device manager i get this message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

when i then click on check for solutions the header for the box comes up with 'could not load driver software' but then never comes up with a solution, i've tried to update the driver through windows but it tells me i have the best driver installed.

I'f i uninstall all the nokia software and delete all the drivers, a very lengthly proccess i might add, and then re-install the disk, the same happens, it works fine until rebooted and then it all starts again.

the other nokia applications work through the cable so i know its not the cable, and i have no other problems with the phone, it just seems to be the driver for the phone itself. Has anyone had a similar problem?? any help greatfully recieved

hi, when you connect the handset to your pc it should give you a few options on the phone screen. what one are you selecting?

you should have 4 options:

pc suit, data transfer, image print and media player.

pc suit is generally used when installing files to the handset and mass memory is used if you are looking to transfer files from/send files to the handset etc.

i hope this helps.

I've selected pc suite but that doesn't make any difference, my phones still invisible and the driver won't start. I think its a vista problem

Re: problem with device visibilty in 'my computer' unable to access mass memory or phone memory.

it could be however use vista with no problems so hopefully its something less complicated.
can you try for me selecting data transfer instead of pc suit when you connect the usb cable? after that open the 'my computer' or 'computer' folder as its called on vista and tell me if there is a new icon called removable disk. if so it means the phone is connecting properly if not you may have bigger issues.

let me know how you get on and good luck

if i do select data transfer instead i do get the memory icon in my computer for the 8gb part of the phone but not the flash memory for the phone itself. maybe its a nokia software problem

Re: problem with device visibilty in 'my computer' unable to access mass memory or phone memory.

its a strange one bud because it will connect successfully to do a data transfer. are you able to try using another computer? also have you installed the latest software onto your pc and handset?

Re: problem with device visibilty in 'my computer' unable to access mass memory or phone memory.

I am having the same problem, everything's been fine (copying / browsing / deleting files) until today?

The phone's only 2 weeks old...

Plugged the phone in to transfer some photos using the PC Suite and even though the phone is 'connected' its no longer appearing or browsable via 'My Computer'..

Is there any other way to access data on the phone (mass storage area)...

Any solutions?

Am backing up and updating the device driver etc. as updates are available...

Re: problem with device visibilty in 'my computer' unable to access mass memory or phone memory.

good evening,, try to check the pc's folder options,,, open a window, click tools and folder options,, in the View tab,,check "show hidden files" ,,,, you can open the nokia pc suit help/trouble shooting. in my case,, there is amessage saying that there is problem w/ the compatibility w/ mass storage connection, but still, i can browse the files on my phone. i downloaded the latest version of nokia pc suite 7.0.7.0. uninstalled the previous version and all of its components and installed the latest versions,(restarting the pc is very important)I still got the same error messages,, but I can still browse my phone. I just leave that way.
