problem with N79 typing

hey! it hasn't been a month since i got it, but i have a huge problem with my N79. when i type an SMS, it hangs after typing a few characters and all i could do is restart the phone. but once i do restart it and start typing another SMS, it hangs again. it's really irritating! i can't use it to sent texts anymore. the number '2' usually appears before it hangs, even if i'm not pressing on number '2' on the keypad. i tried bringing it to a shop to get it reformatted, but the problem came back after 4 days. i tried reformatting it myself, but it didn't work. help me, please! :smileysad:

Re: problem with N79 typing

rick is right check for the latest firmware if you have not done so already. you can do so by FOTA in your apps or menu (software checker or device manager - tool and utilities section)
or you can go connect your phone via usb and use NSU to search for the latest firmware for your phone.

here are some other things you can do. make sure you back up all your data.

*#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list.
*#7370# - Reformat your phone

This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. Turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button.
re-flash - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen.

If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service.

If this post answers your question, you can help others by clicking the green  accepted solution' button. Thanks much ! You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me !

Hi there, there is also another SMS bug reported for the N79 (Luckily I didnt face em), whenever one sends a message, the phone restarts.
If above mentioned ways do not treat for you, then wait for the FW upgrade.

PS: The changelog was huge.:smileytongue::smileytongue::smileytongue:

Re: problem with N79 typing

i have a problem related to typing. this problem is for Middle East Languages (Farsi/Arabic...)
it is a bit annoying that when you want to type a character like "?" or "!" or other useful ones in SMS, you must hit "1" button more than 10 times! it is ridiculous and not fixed in new version...
I hope NOKIA fix it in next version...

NSU = Nokia Software Updater, you can i think either download it as a stand alone app or as a part of the Nokia PC suite off the Nokia website. This application enables your phone to be checked for the latest firmware avaliable or reinstall the current firmware.

Why to use those three buttons while restarting the phone? You have said it many times in other threads but is it really needed? Coz when i try to restart by pressing the power key it restarst without pressing those three buttons and good to see you back korngear!
Please reply for my posts also! Thanks in advance.

unfortunately, if you have tried all the options listed in this thread there is nothing you can do but take it to the service. the 'three finger salute ' the flashing of the phone is the most 'extreme' option you can take with your phone without having to take it to Nokia Care point. if you say that all these things do not work, take it to the service and have them work on it. sorry mate
