I just received my Nokia 5800 blue today on from mobilephonesdirect/nokiaretail on contract with vodafone.
Its a great phone but I have already noticed a major build quality problem...the top right corner of the phone is loose and the light from inside can be seen through the corner. When I apply light pressure on the top right hand corner the top cover will go down and then come back up by about 1mm. Whereas the other 3 corners and sides do not move about when pressed, they are all really firm and tight.
I am just concerned after further use this phone will eventually fall apart and in the mean time a lot of dust is going to get inside...
Should i return the phone now ? I googled this problem and found people who got their handset in December also had this problem...
how long will Nokia warrant the 5800?
thanks

You did not tell us where you are. Nokia warranties differ from region to region and is generally 1 year. However, if you are in Europe it is 2 years.
That aside, if you received the phone in a defective state and you are not happy with it, you should contact the vendor for a replacement immediately.

Im from the UK.
Thing is I'm not sure if they all have this defect so maybe I'll wait until next week when more people on these forums have the handset to see if theirs is also loose towards the top right corner of the phone.
thanks for your quick response

shame Nokia couldn't have done better quality checks. Because I didn't buy mine from vodafone but instead a retailer online Im going to have to send it back through the post or get the 1 hour train journey to my nearest store :/
I'll give them a call first to see if their current stock have a defect free one.
thanks

It's not enough, My nokia 5610 has had the slider replaced, and the screen is now faulty. Add that to the fact that the firmware has never works satisfactorally and that nokias only answer has been "go get it fixed at your local repair centre". I've only had it 5 months.
Report these problems now as the phone is less than 6 months old and have it repaired. If nokia don't repair it and this problem causes the phone to fail, nokia will have to repair it free of charge even outside the 2 year guarentee as the fault was present and reported within the first six months.

I am in the UK and my phone is the red one, model number 0575581. I don't think I would ever have noticed it either, if it wasn't for this post, thanks.
