Wait until the software is available for your phone is the only legal way .

I dont know where you for the changelog, but here is an actual set of things people get:
1. Browser 7.2 - use the default web browser and you will see
2.Kinetic Scrolling in appshell - obviously, kinetic scroll it! its there
3. Ovi Sync 2.0 is in the apps menu
4. New Ovi Store, just open the ovi store. No actual changes anyway.

hi guys! I hope someone can help me on this. As I'm typing this message, I'm actually having my 5800 updated, but I think it's taking too long.. Can someone please provide me the answer as to how large is the file update is from version 40.0 to 50.0? and how long does it take to for the update to actually finish. The update is running for like 3 hours now.. Will it really take that much or more time for it to finish? Thanks in advance!!

Aprt from the above does it actually fix any bugs and issues I am having a serious one now and I have had to take it back into Vodafone for a 3rd repair in 2 weeks.

Depends on what bugs or issues, as these could be end user caused for all we know.

I have product code: 0575378, RM-356
was having the same issue through nokia software updater connecting via USB. after several days of v 50 available, it always said - you have the latest firmware. I tried connecting the phone through wi-fi internet >> dial *#0000# >> Options >> check for updates >> download now >> yes. and this worked. I think, its a matter of time, they will slowly cover all product codes, but still you mey try what i did.

I got a message from Nokia about an update but at the time I was sending my phone in to repair via Vodafone for the 3rd time as my original was dead because of a software issue. Anyways they gave me another 5800XM and again I got the message so I updated via Software Updater but it detected v40 and upgraded.
I just today did the reset as I was experiencing drained batter issues after the hard reset V40 has kicked in new home screen and more memory for the phone. Just dont understand why V50 is not available but really would I want it.

Thats your choice .
I find no negatives with it over V4 .
Install on a clean memory card with all data backed up works 100s of times .
The not understanding bit dont worry with ten billion posts on the subject nobody really knows .
Include Nokai in that .

Reasons why a phone cannot update:
1. It is a country variant - country variants often get the updates later, or have updates skipped altogether. A Turkish country variant product code for example, skipped v40 and updated from v31 straight to v50.
2. It is network branded - phones acquired from network providers or these providers' stores SIM free are branded, and will not get updates until the networks approve and modify the updates to their liking.
3. Special editions - These special editions are chartered editions and may never get updates unless taken to a Nokia Care center.

Think yourself lucky. I installed last week and since I have the new software the phone continually resetst itself, both when I am doing things or just when it is sat on my desk. And the bigges bummer is there is no way of regressing to V40 again unless you take it to a Nokia centre. Just great NOT!!!!!.
