so i have been reading a lot and seing lots of videos on youtube about the new firmware for the nokia n97 but i thought the release date was today for asian n97 unbranded phones.. and on sunday for un-branded uk n97's

is there a real release date for uk-unbranded n97's?!

im ho[ping the new firmware will fix some of the issues like the mp4s i load crashing easily due to lack of ram even though i have nothing running and the nokia ringtone playing when people ring me even though i have a mp3 set as a ringtone..

does anyone have a date for the new firmware?

The information that did the rounds on the forums about it being released today was a lie.  It was always plain obvious that the "leaked schedule" was false.

No one knows the exact date for any country so all you can do is wait.  It is believed to be released before the end of October.  As for the UK it's highly likely we will have to wait weeks or even months longer as per usual but only time will tell.

i only use one nokia n97 forum but i had no reason to not believe it.. good to know it was a lie thanks.

last upgrade to the 11 firmware the unbranded uk phones got it first if i am not mistaken?

No, the UK unbranded handsets had to wait two or three weeks after the initial release of the v11.x firmware to upgrade.  We're always late in the release schedule for who knows what reason.

its a shame that nokia dont release firmware to everyone at the same time like apple do..

im using a UK unbranded n97 with firmware v12 and theres still a few bugs that need correcting. i read today that v20 will be released on or around the 23rd October. this is the release date of the n97 mini which will be launched with v20 so it makes sense really. lets just hope there's no delays.

That date is yet another rumour with nothing at all to back it up.

The simple fact is that no one knows the exact date yet.  It's believed to be near the end of October but could just as easily slip into November. 

So it will be released when it's ready.

generally speaking the 23rd is "near the end of october" but saying that i appreciate that users with unbranded handset will probably have to wait however long for its release. btw i'd just read your (psychomania) thread about this issue and i'm definately in support. have you heard anything else on this apart from within the thread?

It's expected that a new version of the NSU will appear before the new update.

V20 is not on the firmware servers yet. 

The release of a new version of the NSU does not mean instant availability of new firmwares.  It may still be several days or even weeks before v20 arrives, it may be today.

No one knows for sure yet.

I also got the NSU update (for XP) - No sign of V2 for the phone though.  Any day now I hope.

As I said before it does not guarantee instant availability of v20. Just be patent, it will appear when it's ready.

 

Wouldn't you prefer that they hold it back to make sure it's ready rather than rushing it out?  I'm sure they don't want to make any silly mistakes with this one.

someone on a nokia n9y7 forum i use says he spoke with nokia tech line in england and said they told him that v20 would be about mid november now... i dont know how true that is but im happy to wait as long as it takes... better nokia release a firmware buglesss rather then full of bugs..

i still think nokia suck for releasing firmware country by country and not to everyone..

why do they do that ?
