First things first: Is your phone´s FW up to date? :smileyhappy:

You can update your phone using the NSU:

Nokia Software Updater

All you need for this is a internet connection and a data cable for your phone!

Hard format your mobile. For that, backup your mobile's contacts, messages, notes, calender and bookmarks via Nokia PC Suite backup utility. Don't backup anything else like settings or user files etc. Now backup your images, videos and music files using Windows Explorer. Now format your memory card and switch off your mobile. Now press and hold this 3 key "green call key, * and 3" together and switch on your mobile. Press and hold down that 3 button till country insertion dialogue appear. Now check your problem. If it doesn't solve then now there is a hardware error in your phone so go to your nearest Nokia Care Point and give them your mobile for proper check and if your problem get solve then restore your backup in your mobile and enjoy. Good luck...

Remember that, don't update your mobile's firmware to the latest at home in this situation because if your mobile restart by itself while updating the firmware then your mobile will gone dead. First correct your problem then update its firmware.

If the phone only restarts while charging, I see no problem to update the phone´s FW...

Besides that, a hard reset isn´t a thing you should advise first...

Try a soft reset by pressing *#7370#, before anything else...

Illinjah is correct, a hard reset should ALWAYS be performed as a last resort, before taking the option of bringing your phone to your local Nokia Care Centre. Post007, you seem to be suggesting a lot of hard resets to users straight-up, i would suggest reviewing this, as although this may work in cases, it may not be warranted for when there is a much simpler and less cumbersome solution for the user involved.

For every small problem there isn't a solution of hard reset or soft reset! Every post of post007 contains hard reset or soft reset. Just look into here- /discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&thread.id=155332

exactly Loveuhateu, i'm concerned that Post007 is misleading users by suggesting that kind of advice, and not suggesting other options first.
