nokia 5800 v50 - too many bugs...

I upgraded the phone from the version I got when I bough it (don't remember the version but it was more than a year ago) to V50. Since the update I only get problems. I use the GPS a lot and since the upgrade the GPS is unusable, I can't get a lock and when I do get a lock it takes more than 10 minutes and the signal lock is not solid and disconnects all the time. I also have problems with the Bluetooth and the phone seems to be slower than before.

Does nokia intend to fix all these problems in the near future? Is a new firmware update coming soon? If not, is it possible to downgrade the firmware to the firmware I had when I bought the phone which seemed to work much better than the latest firmware?

Thanks in advance,

Assaf.

When you do an upgrade, I believe the GPS will take longer to lock the first time. However, after that, it should return to normal locking time and have decent stability.

v50 is a fairly new firmware for 5800. It was released about 2 months ago. If there are enough problems they will release another update soon. I bought my 5800 from a provider and I'm stuck on v30.

And I don't think it's possible to downgrade the firmware once you upgrade it. I wanted to do the same on my N95 a while back but there was no way to return to the old version.

You can try re-installing the firmware or re-installing Ovi Maps.

Only definite bug on the V5 is the RDS problem .  GPS is not a problem .

Did you have Ovi Maps 3.03 in installed in your phone before update? It would be carried over to v50. The problem would be that Ovi Maps 3.03 on v50 is installed in the C drive, and your old installation on the C drive would be carried over, making your phone have two conflicting software of Ovi maps. You should remove your installed Ovi maps 3.03 from the C drive.

Re: nokia 5800 v50 - too many bugs...

I am not using ovi maps for navigation.

The gps doesnt work on my navigation software (twonav) and also when i try the "location" application. It takes at least 5 minutes to get a lock and usuall it takes about 10 minutes, and it disconnects from time to time, since I do get a lock i assume that the gps module is ok, and the problems began after i upgraded to v50.

Is there a possibility to change the Gps settings? BTW i am not using the AGPS function, only the internal standart GPS.

It could be a variety of things.

If I remembetr correctly, here was an issue in Iceland where everybody there lost GPS signals after they updated, and turned out to be a weather/satellite issue that coincided with Nokia's firmware release.

You could try reinstalling the firmware.

When will 5.0 be avaliable to North American customers?

I have an early handset and when I udated to V4 i gained a screen problem, I've been told that this is solved when updating to 5.0 but up untill now it hasn't been released. I bought this phone in NYC, and I'm regretting it, ever since that firmware update.

@jantdeg - I am on v3 and I have the horizontal/vertical lines on the screen...which literally makes the phone unusable.  Is this the same screen problem you're having?
