n82 wifi problem... Stumped...

Hello, just bought a n82 yesterday and it seems really great, except for one thing, I'm getting that same wifi problem that seems to be cropping up on here. I have a wpa connection which broadcasts the ssid, and we use an edimax router. When I try to connect I get either 'network not found' or 'no gateway reply' messages, i've tried manually entering the details, but still no avail... does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks in advance :smileyhappy:

Re: n82 wifi problem... Stumped...

It could be one of many reasons but try checking the following.

Firstly, temporary disable all security on the router. If it works then you know your hardware is fine and the problem is with the settings.

Then try the following.

1. Check whether the passphrase is Hex or Ascii and set the phone up accordingly
2. See if mac filtering is enabled on your router. If yes then enter *#62209526# on your phone to get phone mac address and add to router list.

Re: n82 wifi problem... Stumped...

So with security disabled it still says gateway no reply, so I guess it's my router, right? I was in town and it had no trouble locking on to any free wifi in cafes and stuff.

We have 4 computers sharing our router, might that make a difference? 2 wifi and 2 with cable, never really had trouble connecting via psp or with my nokia 770, but maybe the phone is the straw that broke the camel's back? :smileyhappy:

I suppose the answer is get a new router?

Wait!!! Before you do so. Check something else first. With most routers you can also set the number of wireless channels. If your router is set to 2 and you already have 2 then you have to change it to 3 or more. On the other hand, if it is maxed out at 2 then you will need to get another.

I'll check right now. Hmm... doesn't seem to be an option for that. There's something that says IP pool and that's set at 32. I dunno I'll keep searching but it seems odd that somethings connect no problem...

Funny thing is my girlfriends vista laptop won't connect either so she's using a cable atm.

Your router is sounding dodgier by the minute :smileyhappy:

You could get one from PCWorld try it out. If it works, keep it and if it doesn't you can always return it :smileyhappy:

Heyja,

Where did you get that code to check mac for the wifi interface?

Is there a full list somewhere on the web of all such commands for N82?

Don't get too far away from your router. Also, try not to cover the internal antenna in the phone with your finger.
That's right people, I'm back. Where have I been? I have been getting a life, away from this electric madness.

Re: n82 wifi problem... Stumped...

I need help with same kind of problem

1) At home: we keep a list of allowed MAC numbers allowed to use our wifi (shared place 0 ). Our D-Link router does not like the my e51's MAC number format which contains ":" instead of "-". What can I do?

2) Away from home: atvcertain hotels with free wifi I can't connect with my e51 although the e51 reports 90-100% strength signal while everyone around connects with their laptop. Where's the problem here?

Thanks
