my N97 slider llock / unlock button fell off phone is a month olf

hi need help ASAP
bought a N97 through 3 and eagerly awaited its arrival on waiting for my baby to arrive i purchased a leather hard case a plastic case for the front and as soon as it arrived placed them on , i look after my phone and love it, i have the latest firmware and lots of OVi stuff on also,
I adore this phone but am now devastated the slider lock/unlock key fell off whilst i was attending a christening today and now the phone is all but useless ok i can fiddle to play with it with the screen slid out but that isnt practical to me nor should i have to do this :smileysad:
and i phoned 3 and they said tough it is your fault so u need to pay for its repair hell the phone is a month old and was looked after like a new baby  i have not abused this phone and refuse to be held to ransome by three why should i pay, it was clearly a problem waiting to happen and would like your advice on this matter

Not seen this problem on the boards so I doubt it's a common issue.

What you should do is take the phone to a nokia care point. They will inspect it and if they find it to be in overall good condition they will repair it under warranty.

I seen this and couldnt help myself, i couldnt stop laughing for a few minutes im afraid lol sorry to hear about your missfortune, but i think it was only a matter of time before someone reported this. I think this idea for the phone was a bad one and i didnt like it from the start of using it, i know use "Mykeylock" which lets you chose what other buttons to use to lock and unlock the phone, i use this along with "Nunlock" and it works like a charm, no more slider. Good luck with your repairs, im still laughing, not at you though, just this stupid phone.

It actually fell off?  Ouch.  I know they do feel a little wobbly and loose but I've not heard of one falling off before.

A repair will not be too expensive I'd have thought.  I have read on here though of people asking if all the unlock buttons feel loose and I think judging by the response and the 2x N97's I've held they do.  If this is the case I can understand why you begrudge paying for a repair like this.

and you better tell the guys at 3 that they can stick the button into their **bleep** and then maybe they can tell whose fault it is :smileymad:

Re: my N97 slider llock / unlock button fell off phone is a month old

the samething happened to me mate only 3months after getting my phone. carphone warehouse said they wouldnt fix it for free because it wasnt covered by warranty, so i called up nokia and they said that so long as it wasnt broken through neglagence then they would fix it free of charge. so i took it to my local nokia repair centre and they fixed it for free. i did have to wait a couple of weeks for them to receive the part, but as soon as they had it, it was repaired in less than 20mins. btw ive posted before regarding this matter on another dicussion. hope you can get your fone fixed soon.

Re: my N97 slider llock / unlock button fell off phone is a month olf

i'm so glad to see that this is more common than i thought my slide key broke after having the phone for 6 weeks and i was so carefull with it, i took it back to the 3 store where i'd purchased it from where they basically laughed and said this was my own fault and that i would be charged for the repair. i then took the phone to carphone warehouse who couldnt have been more helpfull they are repairing it free of charge, has been in shop couple of weeks tho hoping its back soon good phone just badly designed.

Re: my N97 slider llock / unlock button fell off phone is a month olf

The best solution to this i found was to download Nunlock, giving you the choice to unlock the handset with a finger swipe across the screen like the iphone does. This leaves the slider untouched so will have to fear of damage. After i read that a few people were having problems with the slider i didnt want it to happen to me either.

Re: my N97 slider llock / unlock button fell off phone is a month olf

The exact same thing has happened to me but I am trying to avoid being without the phone over christmas.  Can anyone tell me where to download MyKeyLock from?  Any I have found have given me a certificate error.  If its something I am doing wrong please please tell me!  I get all my work emails on this phone but it requires that there is an autolock and even sliding the phone open does not register with the auto lock :smileysad:

Re: my N97 slider llock / unlock button fell off phone is a month olf

My N97 has the same situation. I even can not find where is the unlock button.

Feel not good about the experience. This is the first time with most expensive price cellphone I used.

But the quality like this, I believe it is kind of design or common problem.

Wish Nokia can face it or recall for fast repair.

My strong faith to N97 is melting.

Still canna accept it.

Anyone knows how to repair it ASAP on repair shop or anyplace.

Best regards,

JamesN97

same thing happened to me, I took such good care of my phone, I GENTLY used the unlock button, and it just fell off, I thought 'oh okay minor issue, maybe it will pop back into place' nope it didn't, it looks cheaply made anyway, I mean I

looked at the bottom of the button, and it looks like it was held in place with glue or something. This was a brand new phone straight from the vodafone shop. I was so poised off...YOU ARE NOT ALONE COMRADE! :smileysad:

Re: my N97 slider llock / unlock button fell off phone is a month olf

The same thing happened to me - I unlocked my phone one day (under normal use), and the lock key fell off in my hand. I went to a registered Nokia Care Point (Carphone Warehouse in Coventry) and they told me £83 - it annoys me that some of you have been to Carphone Warehouses and got the fix for free. I'm gonna try another Care Point that isn't a Carphone Warehouse and see if they do it for free. The guys at the CW gave me the number for the N97 Support line (which shows you how **** the phone is) where you can release all your troubles about the gawd darn phone.
