Since you can receive messages it means your msg centre is properly set.
Go to menu, messaging, options, settings, Text message, confirm that message sent as is set to Text.
if it does not work as desired consider backing up your vital data before performing a soft reset or hard reset as is necessary

check that your message centre number is correct before you do anything you can ask operator what the correct number is
go to menu messaging/option/settings/message centre

Hi, before you spend too much time on resetting phone, just contact your service provider again, I had a similar problem with mms and Vodafone. Did hard reset, re install software, searched the web for correct settings and did them myself, had settings txt by Vodafone twice, and made several phone calls. This went on for over a week and a half. Now by this time I was irritated to say the least. So . Solution, a very stern call to Vodafone support, insisted on taking to supervisor, and then whoever was above him. I wouldn't get off the phone. It turned out mms had been removed from my account, and no one had noticed. One of our Ameican friends posted a similar problem a while ago, I told him my story and he got the same result !! Not claiming it will work for you, but some things are beyond our control and not every employee of every network is exactly a technical expert, and if your problem doesn't have a script to answer with so you get fobbed off. Just ask your service provider to double check that everything on your contract is set up correctly, and that nothing has been changed or omitted. Hope you can resolve your problem, but if it is a network issue you can't do it yourself.
Good Luck
