memory card software stopped working

i just reset factory settings of my n97 as it was crashing alot..i did back of all data on a memory card. I have a 2gb external memory card. but now after reset to factory settings all softwares which were installed on external memory card i.e smart movie nd all have stopped working. i have already restored backup nd whenever i try to install softwares again it says me "unable to install" nd if somehow software gets installed den after restarting phone that software gets deletes automatically again. this happened before also when i hard reset my 97 nd at that time also i didn't found any solution other then just formatting my external memory card..after formatting all softwares worked properly. but rightnow i don't want to format my memory card as i don't want to lose my all messages nd other data..so any1 here can solve my problem..?
