Re: language problem in n82

Phones are preinstalled with a set of languages relevant to the regions where a phone is intended for sale, but sometimes retail chains move stock to meet demand in different places which sometimes leaves people without their preferred choice.

Nokia does not provide a method for the end user to add languages, but a Nokia service point may be able to add the language packs that you need. Make sure that you have the latest software on the phone before you do this, though, as using the software updater would leave the phone back with its original languages.

I have the same problem: the phone was bought in Germany but I need Russian and Ukrainian languages too. So the question. What happens if I use Nokia Software Updater utility from PC Suite and update the phone's software using the one from my region's local Nokia site www.nokia.ua? Whether the typical languages of the region will be added into the phone in this case?

Re: language problem in n82

Nokia doesn't allow you to add languages to your phone, as the phone you purchase is for that region only.

In order to get additional language support not on your phone, you must purchase a phone in that region.

Re: language problem in n82

that's insane!
I hope that nokia is far more clever than this.

Just think about all that people who works with languages.
Should they buy two or more phones??

You can find a lot of discussion in this forum about this, and everyone says that you have to take the phone to a nokia care point and they will set it for you (mind not to upgrade or it will reset the languages to the original ones).
But till now noone has come back and told us if it worked or not.

Re: language problem in n82

no you don't have to purchase the phone for the region, but you will have to go to the Nokia Care Point and have them install the relevant language pack. first it will cost you and second you will lose the language pack once you reset your phone and update your firmware

Re: language problem in n82

well like stated above, all phones for all regions come with specific language packs. the languages you have on the phone are limited to that. i know this might sound strange but i believe that every other phone maker does the same thing. their phones have region specific product codes and therefore language packs. now there are ways to change that but it can't be discussed on this forum as it will void your warranty and it's against policy of this forum to discuss such things.

Re: language problem in n82

i think if you are a little bit more insistent on what you want the service to perform, they might do it for you. I know that they have that capacity, it's a matter of people that work there sometimes that is not the same :smileysad:

ps. this forum is a user to user forum, none of the people that respond to your questions are Nokia employees. No Nokia emmployee actually participates on these boards in an official capacity, except for the mods but they are here to keep a safe and orderly community.

Re: language problem in n82

Here's the reply I received from NokiaUSA Customer Care when I emailed them about adding Chinese to my phone, purchased in the US;

"Nokia devices are designed for specific regions and only designed to utilize the languages of the region of manufacture. Since your Nokia N82 was purchased in the United States, your device is a North American device and can only use English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.

I apologize that your North American device cannot add Chinese as a language. However, I am happy to report that since Nokia is an international company, you may purchase a phone with your desired language pre-installed from the region in which that language is spoken and used."

Maybe some service centers MIGHT do it, but I highly doubt it. You might get lucky though.

Re: language problem in n82

Yes you can change the language pack. You can use JAF - you will have to install a new language pack - and it can include many languages - you can even create your own pack. Search for JAF - there are many other boxes that can do this also. These cost some money - I have a phone shop so I have one of these and many others. Be caseful when doing it (make sure you have a firm understanding of what you are using) as doing it wrong can destroy your phone.

Re: language problem in n82

Damn you NOKIA!!  Why do you have to reset the language setting when we users update our phone?  Really inconvenient for us users.  Which retard proposed this?  If this keeps up, Nokia will definitely fall.  Not that I want to bad mouth or anything but this is the truth!  Look at android and the likes, they let you keep your original settings (language support etc) when updating your phone.  My gosh~!!!!

Last time, when I first got my N82, it can support Chinese, English and Malay.   But when I updated it to the latest firmware (v35.0.002), it can only support english, french, spanish and portugese.  =.="  What the heck~  And now I can't even send messages to other network providers number.  Btw, I am from Malaysia and we are using mainly Digi, Celcom and Maxis.  Now my celcom number can only send messages to celcom users.

The machine can't even send messages to Digi users and Maxis users.  Talk about "connecting people".   Feels more like disconnecting people. T.T
