Hi,
I was using Internet calls feature on N95. On N97 the only thing what I was able to do is to define SIP profile. It is defined. I am able to register to the SIP server ... but no way to use this server for Internet Calls. I simply do not have possibility to select Internet call. I may select Voice or Video but not Internet as it was on N95. Any ideas?
regards,

VoIP functionality was pulled from S60 devices last year when S60v3FP2 was released (much to the annoyance of users like yourself - I'm one too).
Of course they did not make any improvement on manual. Following the manual Internet Calls are working very well on N97 ... now ![]()

i use fring for voip on 5800 and n97 it works fine.. currently i have it connected to gizmo..
Fring is working relatively well but the application is very limited in number of parameters to adjust. Native VOIP support was working significantly better for me

Hi, grschinon,
Do you have any expectation about when and for wich region there will be update? ![]()
Anyway, what in holy hell is nokia thinking about including SIP without client on N97, N78, N96, etc?
I just bought a N78 and simply coudn't believe on such thing!

Nobody knows how and in what order the update will be rolled out, nor even the date it will starty rolling out.
All we know is "October".
BTW, I feel your pain as I was subjected to it with an N96 too. These third party applications are not solutions because they channel the comms through their own systems instead of letting you connect using SIP to the system of your choice. People fail to see the difference most of the time. It's like trying to use a remote control to use a remote control to drive a car instead of just driving the car itself.
And we have new release - V20 ... but I still do not see possibility to make native SIP calls. Am I blind?

If you read the documentation that has been revised recently (yeah that is sneaky) you see alot of mentions of 'you may' or 'there might be' and somthing about a widget you might find that does not exist. Basically if Nokia wants to enable this with SIP Voip Settings App (like they had for 3.x and 2.x) they could do so quite easily.
See the attached for a screen snap of the new documentation.
The question is are they going to do this, or am I moving on to another company that is semi rational and has better communication skills than a 1 year old. I've been patient and silent since the day I unpacked this phone, but today I have lost patience with waiting for something i know they can enable in 2 minutes.

Yes I noticed this too in the updated manual and wondered where the SIP client/widget is.
Personally I'm over Nokia and the decisions they make on behalf of their customer base. It is clearly evident that there is a severe disconnect between Nokia and their customers.
I have repeatedly seen Nokia make the same mistake over and over again with every new S60 phone they release. I remember the days of how unusable my N91 and N95 were on the first few firmware releases, that I ended up selling them for a loss on eBay. My N97 will be no different except that I've decided not to go with another Nokia again.
I see a lot of people bagging the iPhone for lack of features, etc, but I never see my colleagues have to constantly reset their phone, or worse still have their phone reset on them while in a call. My N97 even randomly reboots when playing music.
I think it's time for me to stop chasing features and go for a more stable product.

Continha,
Contrary to common belief, SIP is not just about VoIP. In fact, Nokia used to have push-to-talk, video-sharing and downloadable games that used SIP way before VoIP came along. It makes perfect sense to separate the SIP stack, the generic bit, from the various applications that use it.
It's Nokia's erratic VoIP roadmapping that doesn't make sense, not to mention their poor communication skills. Technically, however, they are light years ahead of the competition in VoIP.

Now is one of those times that I wish I had a stack of phones to play around with - after going through several processes to get the n97 V20 firmware working i realized that there are many ways to get the SIP working, it is all about having the right packages and not being afraid to try a few things out.
From the feedback I am seeing that the only two things that are needed in addition to the SIP stack are:
'Net Settings': This seems to be absent on pre v20 on the n97 and likely other phones but I am sure it is possible to find this package as well and install it.
'Advanced VoIP Settings': - either SIP VoIP settings 3.0 v1 or SIP VoIP settings 3.0 v1 or Even SIP VoIP settings 2

Hello!
I am half way through these settings but I dont know what these are:
Proxy server address: None ????
Realm: (IP Address to Server) ????
Registrar server address: sip:<your SIP domain name> (ex. sip.example.com)???
Realm: (IP Address to Server)???
does anyone know where I find this out?

Hi
The manual how to implant real VoIP is great, thanks. But with my N97 mini is something wrong. I can call, the called person hear me, but I DON´T HEAR the called person. I hear for a moment, that somebody peaks up, then is silence.
Does anybody has an idea what going on? Is it some mistake in the configuration? Some wrong ports?
And I was so happy as I heard the VOIP ringing ...
greets

1. Make sure the bandwidth you are using does not exceed the bandwidth available. If you are using a rich codec you should have the bandwidth available.
2. Codec - if you are on 3G, unless you are standing next to the cell tower, unless you are using G729 or GSM codec you are not going to be able to complete a call.
3. WiFi - if you don't have a solid fast WiFi connection, and not the right codec, results will not be good. This also hold true if your ISP sucks, and you do not have good upstream bandwidth. GSM and G729 use the least bandwidth upstream - other codecs are too much BW for poor connections.
4. If your SIP provider is no good - your call will be no good.
In short the n97 SIP client works well - if there are issues, it is likely with your connection or your provider...
