have been receiving some text messages of late from a sender that appears as 2 squares a d and then 2 squares

since having these my n95 does not let me know i'm getting a text message no screen display or sound no vibration nothing
i have backed up the phone formatted it then it works
as soon as i restore from the memory card it goes back to the same

can anyone help
i dont want to lose all my info off the memory card

try to restart your phone, worst case do a factory reset, just make sure to save all your data 1st...

have done all that but as soon as i restore data from the card back up it reverts back to the same

When the message contains characters for which there is no corresponding "glyph" to display in the default font file, then a blank square is displayed, instead.

E.g., an European model would display squares for Chinese characters.

but the nmessage is totally blank and i get them periodically about 1-2 a day

seems a little odd that this problem only started since i got them
is there an anti virus i can install that will pick it up if it is a virus ?

i dont think it is a virus at all, are you getting it as a regular sms or perhaps somebody is playing tricks on you and you are receiving it via bluetooth, if that is the case just turn off your bt...

the best thing to do is format memory card(you'll lose everything) then do hard reset on phone. don't restore anything start afresh. i did this after having similar problem on an n80.

Check what software is running, does someone have access to your phone. Some one that is IT aufait? Spyware can act like that. Advice, ? Start from scratch if it comes back after a few days... suspect spyware. and sorry yes you do have to reformat your memory card. 1. back up all important data etc. than reset ....OR... restore settings only from a earlier back up from pcsuite.. You do back up dont you?

Would the messages by any chance be "cell broadcast" messages, and not SMS?

(I suppose you could tell if it is the former, because with an SMS you would be able to see the sender's telephone number; with cell broadcast - as with Bluetooth- there wouldn't be such a number.)

If they are cell broadcast messages, the solution would be to turn reception off for these messages  (Messaging, Options, Cell Broadcast, Settings... or similar).

Hello I have exactly the same message and symptoms, surely that means they are related.

I get no notification about messages and this blank text from square square semi circle square.

Did you solve this issue?
