If you have a memory card in the N96 remove that, also remove the sim card and try again.
Also try leaving the battery out a bit longer, like 5 minutes.
If it still fails then the only option is the four finger reset.
Hard reset:
1. Switch off the phone.
2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button for a second to switch on the phone.
4. Release when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
It may take a few attempts and very flexible fingers.

Unfortunatly it sounds like a 3 finger job
Firstly take the battery out for a good 5 mins before trying to boot
Memmory cards have also been known to cause issues so remove
You could try plugging it into a pc with pcsuite/ovisuite running via usb and turning it on but wouldn't hold out much hope
But I guess neither will do much good

It is very odd that it had to be done.
Had you recently installed any software into the mass memory that runs on start up, as that is the most likely culprit.

That is extremely odd.
Which firmware version do you have?

Fair enough, damn networks!
After you reset did you format the mass memory? Chances are that something on there is the cause.

Glad to be of service ![]()
Lets hope it doesn't happen again!
For future reference always install any apps that run at start up onto the phones memory.

Generally you can tell if an app runs at start up because it will be running without any user intervention, for eaxmple the 3mail service.
Most java based apps do not run at startup.
