I have used the Nokia GPS device, faced the following issues:
1. you must forget using any other blue-tooth device, it will not work properly.
2. Blue tooth keeps freezing, you will need to remove the battery and reboot.
3. You will need two chargers, even if you use nokia devices.
4. FM transmitter will not function while charging.
N97 is a hopeless case, get an iPhone 3Gs and see the difference.

What's all this "You must...", or "You will..." business. Who is telling you this rubbish?
I have 5 external bluetooth devices, of 3 different makes . They all work perfectly with the N97. Bluetooth has never frozen since day 1 - 26th June. What the h**l are you talking about - 2 chargers? For what? The battery on an external bluetooth device will run for about 12 hours. You can charge it overnight like the phone, if you want.
You don't have a clue what you're talking about, in any respect.
You keep spamming these forums with this "...get an iPhone..." carp.

What a great service....![]()
I have an official complaint adressed against Nokia in Spain because of my faulty phone with the local Government authorities.
Well, I send a copy of my complaint by fax to Nokia. Then I receive an email, stating that they don't have a record that my phone has a problem...what a joke!!!
Then, when I reply to the email this guy from Nokia sends to me, I get an automated message saying that I can't reply to that email...
What kind of customer service is that?
Furthermore, Nokia has deleted the current Discussion in the European page for Discussions. Seems they forgot to do it on the Uk site...

N97 GPS hardware, though not perfect, is still a reasonable device that gives me a GPS fix within 15 seconds, even on a lousy bad weather, cloudy day, and during raining days in Singapore, with tall buildings in between this tiny city. This is tested more than 100 times since I got this N97 phones 4 weeks ago.
How do I know? I played with the GPS more than 20 times a day, without Network Based, no Assisted GPS, no Bluetooth GPS (under Positioning methods).
The trick? I tested with Garmin Mobile application instead of Nokia Map.
The 1st time I use the Nokia Map, it took about 1 minute to get a GPS fix under a bright clear sky, but no signal under under weather condition or with nearby tall buildings.
Then I installed Garmin Mobile, and it is the same with Garmin Mobile, taking about 1 minute to get GPS fix.
Next, I switch on the bluetooth. The GPS fix became quicker, probably due to the bluetooth augmentation. But still at times no signal under bad weather and between tall buildings.
Then I learn about the copper wire solution, and tried it. However I found that it is impractical to conceal the long copper wire on top of the battery. So I made a 8cm thin copper wire and with double-sided tape, make multiple coiling, and conceal below the original label antenna. Now it is fully concealed and not noticeable (even with the battery lid removed).
Then I re-installed the Garmin, and check for GPS fix. Imagine I get a less than 5 seconds GPS fix anywhere, anyplace, even besides a tall broad building. Even under raining and cloudy conditions, I get a GPS fix within 5 seconds, sometimes 1 second ![]()
Then I check the files in the phone, and found that a new file was created, it is the 20006e9c.sis in the private folder of the mass memory (accessible by USB Mass Storage selection).
I wanted to find out whether it is this new file or the antenna extension. So I remove the antenna extension, and still found that I can get GPS fix under 15 secs under all environment. So the hardware of the N97 is ok. The only difference between the no antenna extension and antenna extension is this: the GPS signal strength is stronger, and improves the GPS accuracy.
Once the Garmin got a fix, I open the Nokia Map & GPS Data, positioning, and these work perfectly too.
So do not complain about the N97 hardware, but you may want to say something about the GPS software.
