e reader / pdf reader for 5800

Hi,

has anyone had any luck using an Ereader or pdf reader on there 5800? I would very much like to read books on my 5800 while I am travelling. I have surfed for an ereader but can't get any of them to work, (zxreader and tequila cat) admittedly I am very low tech, so what I need is a plain english guide to dowload  install and start using.

Please can anyone help?

Re: e reader / pdf reader for 5800

What is the format of the file(s) that you wish to view?

If I have helped you with your problem in some way, please take a little time and hit the kudos button in my post. Without your feedback, I don't know if I am being helpful or should just be put out to pasture. :smileyhappy:

@patruns - he said pdf. Adobe LE 2.5 PDF reader is the best pdf reader for mobiles (LE 2.5 supports touch), although its not free.

He did not specifically say pdf. He said e-reader or pdf reader.

I guess you will have resolved your problems by now, but if not, here's my suggestions.

If I remember rightly ZXReader came as a .rar or .zip file so you will need to extract it with an appropriate tool (e.g. 7Zip), probably on your PC before transferring it to your phone. If you want to carry out the extraction on your phone, there are a couple of programmes that claim to be able to do this that can be downloaded from Ovi Stores (Y-browser claims zip capability. I can't remember about .rar), but you will have to pay for these. Free versions are available but probably only for those with more tech knowledge than us.

ZXReader only supports plain text files and .fb2 files, so maybe the problem is finding files that work with the software. This website has been recommended to me as a place to find free books in .fb2 format.

http://manybooks.net/

Don't really know how good it is as I only got the recommendation earlier today.

If the books you want aren't available as .fb2 then you may have to download a conversion tool (Fiction book designer is one but seems to freeze a lot on my Windows 7 computer) onto your PC (Lots of fun for us non-techies!).

I hope this is useful to you or someone else out there.

Re: e reader / pdf reader for 5800

I have the following reading applications on my N97 (which should work on your 5800):

1. ZXReader...free but primitive.

2. eReader...had paid for earlier versions, latest beta was free. A well-written application, but they want you to buy their books.  Has digital rights management.

3. iSilo...another good book reader, but more geared for hyperlinked reference material than general purpose reading as not all features work with the touchscreen.

4. MobiReader...this is a "kluge" solution as there is no version written for the S60 5th edition.  So you use the S60 3rd edition version but you have to load VirtualKey (a key remapper) before hand to make some of the functions available.  Not all things work, but I needed it to be backward compatible with all of my .prc books from my Nokia 9300 (Symbian 80).

The problem as I see it, is that with dedicated e-book readers like the Kindle, developers are no longer so interested in developing for S60 5th edition.
