contacts search - 6120 classic

Evening all,

First off, hello all.

Right, I've had my 6120 a while and can't seem to work out how to change the search in the contacts setion.

For example,
If I want to call my friend John, I go into the contacts list and click "J". But, names with J in the surname also pop up, eg David Jones. The search list is looking in first names and surnames?

Is there a way to get the phone to only search the first name?

Many thanks

David

As far as I know there is no search option for Nokia phones. Typing any letter in search be it in the first name or last will show all names in your phone book with that, then refining it as you type succeeding letters.

I did a work around on it but not elegant. I just preceed the last name with a number or any symbol you like. So when I type the symbol the last names are presented. But if you enable to say who's calling it will tell also the preceeding character. You can experiment which one you prefer.

Search does now search both first and last name .. which is actually kind of a good thing as you're not limited to being able to search just one or the other.

The downside is you may have to enter a few more characters to reduce the number of contacts returned, for example you may need to enter "Jo", "Joh" or even "John", depending on how people many you know with "Jo", "Joh" or "John" in their names.

Of course, if you happen to know dozens of Johns, you might find it quicker to type the first couple of letters of the John you're after's last name.
