browsers for 5800

I tested a few browsers on the 5800. What I noticed that virtually all browsers (with the exception of UCWeb) issue a non-changeable WAP user agent which make it impossible to view full sites of e.g. cnn.com, www.smh.com.au, despite the browser is able to view the full version of it. Moreover all browsers (except the builtin browser and Opera (NOT mini) 8.65) use a conversion server to convert it to light content.

- Builtin browser:

Good and fast , but cookies do not work in local (i.e.  file:///) pages.

- Opera Mobile 8.65:

Crashes when opening a website. Opera 9.5 should be better and has been announced for more than a year but is not available for Symbian yet (vaporware ?)

- Opera Mini 4.2

Works mostly good , but some forms are not handled properly.

- UCWeb 6.3 sis version :

locks up at startup

-UCWeb 6.3 jar version:

works OK (even with full web user agent, but only in content folding (small screen rendering) mode. Changing settings does mot work.

- Skyfire 0.95

Locks up at startup with very small popup and very small letters and does not react to any screen click or key press.

Conclusion: most browsers don't even deserve the beta stage.

Do you have other experences ?

Re: browsers for 5800

check out Ozone, its still in beta but i tested it on my N78 and seemed to do an ok job. bit slow though. i think that some of the browsers you tried didnt work so well because the 5800 is the first phone to run on S60 5th edition, therefore applications have not been optimised/not as many are available for the platform.

Re: browsers for 5800

I would have to agree that it is more likely that most browsers out there are not yet optimised to use S60 5th edition and the touch interface.

The release of the N97 might accelerate things as it look as if it will be a popular model to put it mildly.

I use Opera Mini and it suffices for the browsing I do.

If my post has helped you in anyway, please press the 'kudos' button.

Tried Ozone, but cannot enter a URL.

On the bottom you see

www.

http://

http://www.

[edit field]

clicking on any of them does nothing.

Same **bleep**.

So I rely on my Nokia N810 tablet which has a decent browser.

Re: browsers for 5800

Hi ppl

I experienced a strange prblm with Opera Mini on my 5800XM : screen is always flipped upside down !!! It is true in both positions, Portrait or landscape... Re-installing doesn't fix.

I'm not really looking for a solution (I gave up with this browser), but just sharing experiences.

Bye
