Folks,
I'm looking to get a smart phone and the X6 looks a possibility. However, what I get *must* sync with a Linux Desktop. ie backup and have available on my Linux machine, calendar appointments, phone numbers etc etc. It doesn't have to be an official Nokia app, if there was something within the open source community that would be fine. I can do that with JPilot when backing up my Palm Pilot for example, so it's that kind of thing.
Also, I want to be able to use the phone as a means to get on-line with my laptop. At the moment I have a USB stick that I plug in to get Internet access on the move, I want to be able to do that with any new phone I buy.
Is this possible with the X6?
Many thanks!

I had the same issue in the past but now I use Windows 7. Hopefully you are good with Linux because it will take some tweaking to get it to work. I used SyncML and Obex. Do a search through your repository for Nokia and see what packages are available. Google can also be your friend. It was a while ago since I went through the rigors of getting it to work so I cannot quote the steps I used off the top of my head...it wasn't too hard though. The link below was a good starting point for me.

Can't help with the sync issue, but the X6 does work as a tethered modem under Linux, I'm running UNR. You have to use the USB cable at the moment as the bluetooth modem link appears unworkable right now, under Linux or Windows. Hopefully a firmware update will sort that.

Thanks for the replies.
I had searched Google a lot and found references to Nokia phones in general with Linux, but not specifically the X6. It sounds promising and the more I learn about Android, the more Symbian looks like a better bet from a privacy point of view!
Good to know about the tethering. USB connection's not an issue, probably less of a faff than Bluetooth anyway.
