It's all relative - when I pay £300 for a phone I expect the battery indicator to work! I don't think that's being overly picky!

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

no, but comments like those dont actually help anyone now do they?

the only similarity that has been picked up on so far is that some of the affected are in HK.

other than you, no one else seems to have this issue.

but then again, you havent mentioned what software you have installed at startup on your phone either.

i notice you are on orange, do you have the orange home screen?

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

"no, but comments like those dont actually help anyone now do they?"

Yes they make nokia aware of the problem.

My phone is vanilla - I have installed no software or themes. I have replicated the problem on another of e61 (we had a number of those because we were evaluating their use for a mobile data deployment of about 2000 people) which does have various bits of software on it.

Those are sim unlocked network free. Orange is the bearer network my organization uses. It's clearly NOT an issue suffered by people just in Hong Kong as I have had discussions with other European users about the problem.

I mentioned my fireware and the like in a previous post but here it is again:

charlesknight, this isnt the best way to bring issues like this to our attention. Whilst many people from Nokia look at these boards they will not necessarily be related to the product you use.

If you would like to report an issue to us, yuo can drop us an email or give us a call. To find the contact details for your area please go to www.nokia.com/support

Now, if you like you can continue to discuss the issue here to see if others have found a soloution or you can drop our support teams a line.

Cheers

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

We did email nokia awhile back - we never got a reply - I guess it just went into a blackhole.

I actually like the device myself (as an individual) but it's not really quite there yet for the coporate environment (which is why we are not taking it forward as an organization) - maybe the e63 (or whatever the next device in this series) will be.

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

Hi, I just got the E61. I'm in the USA with Cingular Orange network. But my phone was imported from HK. I also have the battery meter problem. Don't think it's related to apps I installed. I noticed the problem on day 1. My firmware is same as what most people have, RM89 dated 4/19/06 Needless to say this is quite dissapointing to see such a basic feature not working properly. I would love to get a new firmware from nokia to fix this.

another user with a phone from HK - charlesknight where did your phones come from?

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

Those are UK stock.

I've checked with a couple of other people, they have the same problem.

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

I can confirm the battery indicator problem on a newly purchased SIM-Free E61 in the UK. This is ocurring with only the standard software, and no themes installed.

There seem to be many issues with this phone, which is not exactly cheap when bought SIM-Free (I am curently finding the WLAN connection almost unusable due to timeouts and failure to detect known good connections).

Most of the problems that I have encountered, such as the battery level indicator, are evident after only a short period of use, suggesting either non-existent test before release, or that Nokia released this device knowing the issues.

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

ok, this is getting daft.

i have an e61 and it doesnt have any of the issues you are all describing. I am not saying it is perfect (it doesnt work with my bh-200 headset for example).

so, this does not mean that all e61's aref faulty. you must not forget that the only people who will come here are those looking for help, so you will hardly every see people pop in and say 'my phone is great, no problems at all'

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

I don't think you need to get so worked up. I don't think it's "daft" for multiple users to confirm that a) the battery level indicator is wonky and b)for users in different locations to confirm that it's not restricted to one terrority.

You don't have a problem but WE have a problem and are discussing it - nobody is forcing you to join in or describe our problem as "daft".

indeed, I also have the E61 and do not find these faults.

this is interesting, so far the majority have been those sold outwith the UK - i wonder if they are grey imports at all?

suffice it to say, my company has a large order of E61's and E60's. Out of those with the E61, no one has mentioned this as an issue (and beleive me, they would do this very soon)

Nope - mine was not a grey import - so that's no to that question.

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

I don't think my E61 is a grey import - it was purchased from Expansys in the UK.

The number of UK people with issues may reflect the number of units being sold - I am not sure that the device is currently bundled with an operator in the US, for example. Alternatively, perhaps there are differences in the supplied firmware versions.

Is there a way to identify the hardware revision number for these phones?

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

from reading the software update board this is done by product code. maybe if you post that you can get some insight on where it should be sold?

i also have the E61, but i do not have your problems.

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

Battery problems, never got it. It seems to work OK, except that I am supposed to be astounded by the superb battery life (according to the sale guy). Thus I set my expectation too high. It went from full to 2 bar over the weekend. I consider anything less than half over the weekend to be average, definitly not astounding.

Bluetooth pairing, yes, it is a big issue (at least to me).

Suggestion: Get your E61 flashed with the new firmware (see my signature) and then test it out. It is good.

Re: When will E61 be fixed?

I've got the battery display problems too.

I have firmware 1.06.10.04.04

If I try to upgrade the firmware using Nokia Software Updater it tells me there is no update available (even though I'm sure there is).

I also have the "callers name not being displayed" problem.

And I'm frustrated at the VOIP problems caused by the lack of support for specifying a STUN server.

Back to Sony Ericsson I think .....
