Hi all i have just owned and rejected 3 handsets from the 3 network due to the serious screen problems they have had!

The problem  is when you look at your screen side on  when the phone is switched off  you can see a purple blotch,also when on a white screen (ie:- browser)you can still see the problem

i have emailed nokia and the 3 network so i can send them the pictures of the problem.

some nokia n97 owners out there may be able to put up with this shortfall but i think nokia's standards have slipped if all screens come with this fault (i have had 3 so far all the same )

anyway i will post a picture and hope i get some common sense explaning why we should put up with such a poorly designed screen.

ps i am pro nokia as i have a n95 and have had numerious nokia phones and really want a n97 but cant justify buying a phone with a design fault and hope it will last the 18 months until my contract  ends.... cheers... baz

did you try to remove the protective cover from the screen first ?

Radical, you're a genius (and your eyes must be better than mine) just downloaded pic, opened it in a photo browser and zoomed in, you can clearly see the little foil triangle on the screen protector that comes on the phone when new. Thought this was a strange post, that's why I looked. Never heard of anyone with this prob before, maybe some touch problems , but clarity never. Well Done

yep the removed the protective cover on 2 phones but rejected the 3rd at the door (it did not make any difference the purple nokia monster is still there with or without )

UPDATE....

Well im now back with my trusty old n95  and the n97 is being returned via royal mail.

i have ordered a new genuine nokia BL-5F from ebay and will be doing a little more research before making any decision, but it looks like a sad day for me as i will be looking at another brand as i think nokia have let us all down :-(

sorry to hear that mate but at the end of the day you gotta do what you gotta do for yourself. i have had n97 since release and it has been funny at times, now its pretty good, but it should have been this way out of the box and not on v20 firmware

cheers for the reply m8 i know where u are coming from... the version i had was a 1.1 or something (defo was not ver 2.0)

i have now posted the last n97 back to 3 and dont expect to buy anything untill i know its a bit better  than the reports on  here ... many thanks... baz

You are lucky. Like you I have had the N97 since release but I have had more problems with mine since I put the v20 firmware on it.

sorry to hear that m8,im sure things will iron out ,i just hope your screen is not like the 3 i had.... baz (i wonder what the n97 mini is like ?)
