It does wobble though when the screen is open and you push an on screen button that's at the top right - like in the web browser and you hit the stop/ back button.
If you look there's 2 hinges on the left and one on the right causing this slight movement and they all seem to do it a little I think. Seems solid enough but over time I'm not sure how it'd hold up. The mechanism does inspire confidence and opens and closes with a satisfying 'snap' which encouraged me to open it as such, not with kid gloves.
Car manufacturers do go on the record and say they got it wrong but I think that's cos lives can be affected. Take the MK1 Audi TT for example. A major recall went on that and a redesign as at high speed the car became unstable. They fitted a rear fin to deal with that. Or the Merc A class being prone to rolling over and revised suspension was required.
A scratched lens on a phone caused by its own mechanism is poor QA on Nokias part but as has been said above I doubt they'd do a recall for that - they rely heavily on the Care points for feedback on regular issues and as a means of resolving hardware faults like this under warranty with revised parts.
What did annoy me though is that you're forced to go to a care point even if they can't help you when you get there or they will be fitting non revised parts - they won't tell you anything over the phone or in a mail, you have to attend and even then they're a little cagy. So when I wanted to know if they would fit a revised slider to my wobbly N85 they just said "fetch it in and we'll take a look". Not always easy when you're at work so I'd want the trip to be worthwhile hence me phoning beforehand and emailing Nokia care to ask.

A very light tap is all I need to hit the "Exit" button/icon/whatever you want to call it. I certainly DO NOT need to "push" it! When I read that first post I did actually push hard on my screen to see the difference, but hell, I had to push REALLY hard - WAY harder than I would ever do in the normal use of my phone!!
Um, also, well, no lens scratches here either. Hate to rub that in, but there you go.
Are you sure YOU own a N97??
So, now you see why people with an N97 need to press the top right of the screen? How did you forget about all the soft buttons before?
I probably have much stronger hands that you, but I assure you I am not pushing with a huge degree of force. My wife was actually the first person to notice the movement when you push the screen
And no, I don't use a screen protector on the screen (see below).
BTW - treasure your lens cover, I am on my third and this one has a scratch (two days of use). I have a screen protector over my lens now, so at least this time I can just replace the protector when it gets scratched. Ludicrous steps to take on a £500 device.

What do you mean?
A) No, I do NOT see why people need to press the top right - that was my point. There is no need to push in my experience.
B) Where did I say I forgot about the soft keys?

You said you were curious why anyone would push the top of the screen. That's where the softkeys are. The N97 is a resistive touch screen, it requires pressure to detect contact. To presume that everyone will touch the screen precisely the right amount to push the two layers of resistive screen together, but no more and no less seems a little naive.I am just thinking that this - ooops I forgot there are softkeys on the top right - combined with thinking PC suite was "perfect" for editing data, until I point out it screws your contact names every time you make a change to a contact, which you then suddenly remember, makes you an unreliable witness in my view.Either your are very undemanding and have low expectations, or you hardly use the phone - thats could be why you are 100% happy with it.
