Re: Vodafone have removed Internet Telephone application from N95

Nokia Service have confirmed by email that if Vodafone have chosen to remove the Internet Telephone application that it will not be possible to replace it.

There you have it. Nokia don't even seem concerned.

Might take this to trading standards.

Re: Vodafone have removed Internet Telephone application from N95

I've just been coming to the same realisation with my Ornage handset this morning. I DL'd the Gizmo app, which configured the handset, but now seem unable to do anything else with it...

The ridiculous thing is that a lot of us on contract effectively pay for our talk time in bulk and I rarely go over it. So if anything, not having VoIP means I use Orange's network more for the same money - meaning less profit for them. Dumb.

Re: Vodafone have removed Internet Telephone application from N95

My reply from Orange was that IF the item that was missing (ie the internet phone application) was in the supplied manual with a 'how to use' page, then they would investigate the problem.

Of course I cannot find a page or discription of the internet phone app in the Nokia manual. I can only therefore surmise that nokia have printed a scaled down version for Orange. Nokia have full knowledge of this and have worked with Orange to omit it from the Nokia N95-1 Users guide.

Is the same true of Vodafone?
Do the O2 or Vigin guides include this info?

The web 'n' walk icon can be restored to the original one by going into the menu and with the icon highlighted select Options --> Icon Animation --> On. This will give you the standard Globe

Re: Vodafone have removed Internet Telephone application from N95

Voda has completely disabled (butched) the VOIP functions inbuilt to the phone.

Meaning that if i enter a phone number, instead of pressing call i can press option and select "Dial via internet" and it will automatically use the VOIP option.

With voda you cannot do this...only way you can use VOIP is to use a package thats completely stand alone but means that you will just use an app somewhere rather than the nice feature

I cancelled my voda contract because of this and went with t-mobile instead

Note then that T-Mobile's new Web'n'Walk package - the £7.50/month one that's being advertised on the TV - does NOT allow VOIP in it's T&Cs, ie: VOIP is "disabled" contractually (or possibly via the network) rather than via software.

There is a more expensive T-Mob package - I think around £20/month - that allows VOIP, though.

Re: Vodafone have removed Internet Telephone application from N95

Yes T-Mobiles Web'n'Walk package disallows VOIP over that network but the N95's VOIP uses WiFi ... thats the point.

To all that have N95 on other networks other than o2 i find it very funny that u all think they r better than o2.... they r obviously NOT due to their insistance to interfer with the firmware to suit them selves and restrict YOUR right to its full potential....never mind that will teach you... to cure the problem u need to get the phone FLASHED to a generic firmware (which might invalidate your warranty due to unauthorised interfence with the product) which o2 only supplies as normal due to the fact YOU own the phone on contract and not the network. PS generic means open to any sim card on any network with exception to 3 as they might be sim locked to the phones they supply.

EDIT: removed provocative language

giancola O2 may have the phone with generic firmware, but whats the point when your data plans are notoriously extortionate.

i think all your data customers just left for t-mobile lollollololol

no point having an open handset, if ur network makes it prohibitive to use data.

back to the drawing board fella

Re: Vodafone have removed Internet Telephone application from N95

This has now spread to the N95-8G, N81 and N81-8G. I asked the staff in both Vodafone and Orange high-street retail stores and both confirmed that the Internet Telephony (VoIP) feature would be disabled on ALL new N-series devices, including the not-yet available N82, although both stores said that VoIP would not be disabled on the E51, like the other E-series devices before it.

It's worth remembering that if you get your Vodafone or Orange contract from a general reseller (Carphone Warehouse or Phones4U - or many of the online stores), you will most likely be provided with a NON internet-telephony-disabled, 'white label', feature-complete device.

Re: Vodafone have removed Internet Telephone application from N95

Use Fring for this!

It bypasses the Orange and Vodafone SIP restrictions, and also interfaces to Skype, MSN Messenger and more (voice calls, not just IM). Also does file transfer! Works over WiFi, 3G or GPRS, and best of all, it gives you the desktop Gizmo rates on your phone so is actually cheaper to use than if O and V had left it intact!

Re: Vodafone have removed Internet Telephone application from N95

the problem with fring when we used it is you have to launch it - i prefer the Nokia Internet telephone client as it takes choice out of our users hands - we have potentially 400 users running VoIP on their mobiles and have succesfully been doing this with the E71

It doesnt make a huge difference to our minutes - especially as we're on a bundled tarrif - however it does help for applications like hot desking our VoIP PABX - as users just connect seemlessly when they are in other offices over WiFi

Vodafone and Nokia - have you not heard the word CONVERGENCE - i understand why youve removed the app - but get real - you cant keep your current business models for ever

Just cancelled order on £50k's worth of E72's (and searching for a more user friendly phone manufacturer) and about to terminate our corporate vodafone contract worth over £150k / annum - i hope thats what you wanted me to do when you removed the Internet Telephone App..!!!!!!!
