Hello.
I dont think its possible. IM uses only open chat protocoll like Jabber.

The built in IM client on the N96 will work with services like windows live messenger (MSN), I used to use it myself.
You need to configure the settings through a third party server.

You can use Fring: http://store.ovi.com/content/71F453711CD53DA5E0400
Or Windows Live Mobile: I used to download it from Download! but nowdays I dont know where to get it.

Parlingo and nimbuzz are also alternatives to fring and the built in IM client. There's also an official live messenger client out there for the N96 but I found that to have issues.
All have their pros and cons but at least there's plenty of choice to be had.
One of the advantages of the built in IM client is that it feels more like part of the phone and notifies you of new IM's just like it does with SMS messages. It's disadvantage is that it's data only and does not work over wi-fi like the other apps can.
