I am also one of those very frustrated N97 owners rumoured about, but, but... if you fix this one very simple thing for me in your next N97 firmware upgrade, you will make me a happy Nokia owner again.

 

My gripe is with making simple telephone calls - that thing we initially started using cellphones for.

 

When I make a call on my N97 and I have to look up a number or (even worse) use the keypad to enter options (aka "Press 1 for....", I have to move the phone away from my head, wait for the phone to activate the screen again, then wait another 2-3 seconds while it swops between landscape and portrait mode (and back again) and then finally (if I am lucky), I can access the "Options" menu, to  select the "Open Dailer".

 

This drives me up the walls. If my qwerty keyboard is closed and I am busy with a call, I am sure we can assume the phone is being held in my hand and I am not typing a message - Why then the long decision/indecision between landscape and portrait mode?

 

Give me this one simple thing - when a call is active (1) and the qwerty keyboard is closed (2) and the phone is moved away from my face (3), and the speaker is inactive (4) - show me the call options in portrait mode (just portrait mode) with a simple, single click/tap/touch option to open the keypad (dailer) - no menus. Please.... just that!?

 

Then when the call ends - please show me the screen options - I am having great difficulty ending a call with a blanked-out screen.

 

Also - please decide on a standard way to answer calls (flip a coin - I am not particular about this one) - heads - slide to answer, tails - press button to answer. Stay with the decision.

 

Simple little f#@@#g annoying things that make me want to throw my N97 into the river next to our office on a daily basis...

I totally agree with this. It is a PHONE after all !!!
Current Devices:
N900, N97, 5800 & iPhone.
nukea - we will get the perfect device in the end (but not this year!)

Huh? Its different on the N97? Whats the other option beside options (the softkeys) when you're making a call, isnt it that the softkeys below are options and dialer with 4 other virtual keys on the screen?
