Re: Tap to Write (N8)

I tap very lightly, about the same amount of pressure as my previous phone, the HTC desire.

Maybe you have a hardware problem or sausage fingers? :smileywink:

Seriously, a colleague of mine was having trouble with her N8's screen not responding (it was her first capacitive phone). The cause was that she was tapping with her nails and barely making contact with her fingers. Once released she can now use it normally without issue.

I suggest if you feel that too much pressure is needed you get it checked out at a nokia care point or speak to your network or retailer.

Re: Tap to Write (N8)

OLED screens detect electrical charges rather than pressure. So you do not need to press too hard on it.

I too have difficulties typing on OLED screen, not just on N8 but iPhone as well. Perhaps it is just my fingers, because my friends have no problem typing on my phone.

Re: Tap to Write (N8)

You could try swype, but it only works in landscape mode on the N8 at the moment !

Re: Tap to Write (N8)

Pycho makes a good point.. My wife has a 5800 whereby you need to use your nail rather than your finger to get decent response. She then had a play on my N8 and complained it wasn't works as she almost smashed the screen with her nails.

I pointed out that it is much more responsive than the 5800 and the lightest of touches with the soft parts of your fingertips works wonders.

She is a bit rubbish though.

Re: Tap to Write (N8)

the trick is to understand the mechanism of the two different touchscreens.. A 5800 has a 'resistive' type of touchscreen and n8 has a 'capacitive' type.. Lemme try explainin it kinda layman terms..
Resistive: two layers of plastic with a space in between them so tht they dont touch each other.. But when u tap on such a screen or use a stylus, the two layers of plastic touch and sends a signal.. It's a bit complex than i explained though..:smileyvery-happy:

Capacitive: amm. Ths s tricky.. Actually its ur pulp of the thumb tht sends the signal whn u touch ths special type of 'charged' glass(touchscreen).. A stylus or nail or a pressure won't work.. If u ask me a capacitive touch is what actually a TOUCH is meant to be.. In resistive it's more of a PRESSURE/TAP than a TOUCH..
I hope this info helps..
To know more, u could google different kind of touch screens..
OLED s just a type of display Organic Light Emittin Diode.. Not a touchscreen type..

Next time if u r confused as to touch or tap, just look for capacitive or resistive.. Rest u knw wat to do, rt?

Hope this helps..:smileyhappy:

Re: Tap to Write (N8)

The N8 screen is great. Very sensitive, and very responsive. As someone who (briefly) had a 5800, this is worlds better. Personally, I loathe resistive touchscreens.

Re: Tap to Write (N8)

It appears that everything else on the screen is receptive to my  touch except "Tap to Write"

Re: Tap to Write (N8)

I'm also experiencing this problem on an intermittent basis. Tapping the "tap to write" area in a message conversation has no effect at times. It may take up to 10 taps before it works.

I am tapping, not hitting, and no, not with my nails. The rest of the functions work fine with normal tapping. It's just "tap to write" that seems broken at times.

Re: Tap to Write (N8)

not that it's helpful but i can confirm that mine responds perfectly well to a regular kinda tap.

Re: Tap to Write (N8)

do you got the tactile feedback (the lil buzz the device makes if you make a tap at something) on? and does it make lil buzz? then its prolly your tapping the wrong part. I myself find that in somethings like in the calendar or contacts sms, you really need to tap at the right part to get to write something, mostly the start of where you could write. Par example. (most problems i got with handy calendar) i really have to tap after like 'place:' and just behind the ':' els it wont go too there while the phone is registering my tap. Though these and formentioned problems are more software then hardware related.
