Having a few personal problems and need to take text messages of my Nokia N8 so I can save them onto a computer/ memory stick, is it possible to do this?

You can sync your messages to your PC directly via Ovi Suite. That program can also make a complete backup of your phone (contacts, apps, music, photos, etc).

On your PC, open Ovi Suite. If its not yet installed, its on the CD that came with your phone when you bought it. Run it. Get the data cable that came with your phone, and connect your phone to PC. A prompt will come up and you should select "PC Suite Mode" (sometimes this comes up as Nokia Mode). Follow the prompts on the Ovi Suite interface. Once its finished, there's a button on the lower right that says sync all. For backup, go to the Tools drop down menu.
