Symbian^3 Google

[ Edited ]

I know now that Symbian is dead.

However I own an N8 and love using it. But I am missing proper Google Apps for this phone which I used to have on my N95.

I hope that nokia at least reaches out so we get official proper S^3 enhanced Google Maps, GMail Youtube, Google Search and GReader Aps.

It would make us all less bitter about buying into a dead community for the next 3/4 years.

ps. updated flash, java and even bing/silver light doesn hurt either.

-N95 Google search had dedicated search app with previews that if you clicked would then open browser which was nice because it kept your search available open for multi tasking and it had voice search.

-Gmaps does not support voice search or multi touch and street view hard to access and not optimized for newer S^3 hardware.

-Youtube is decent but we all know S^3 hardware can handle better video quality especially over wifi and there is zero youtube integration.

-Gmail app is damn old and mobile basic could totally be fleshed out and more robust and have multi touch/html preview like nokia s email app and support Google chat

-google reader/news optimized for hardware/screen size

-google talk would be awesome

Re: Symbian^3 Google

Try complaining to google if you aren't happy with their outdated offerings.

It's not really in google's interest to provide top quality products for other platforms now that android is doing so well.

I did on YouTube Community forums but apparently Google doesn't give a damn about S^3 :smileysad:

That really isn't surprising.

Symbian was always pretty much unknown in the US and google want's symbians market share elsewhere, which they are likely to get.

Which its why I said out would be good for Nokia to reach out. And by that I mean reach into there pockets and spend some of that M $ and convince/help them to make the apps. Its in the best interest for both parties anyways. People get to use google services and won't feel **bleep** about it and will recommend others to use google, while it makes nokia customers more satisfied.

Re: Symbian^3 Google

So you want nokia to spend money convincing/helping google to make better apps so that nokia can compete better with google?

Re: Symbian^3 Google

Do you think its an accident that after the n8 was pushed out with a sstupid youtube book mark instead of a proper app and a few months later a revised app shows up? Did google decide oh lets help “these poor people” or maybe nokia realized they needed to do something and made a few handshakes?

Hmmm.. Look im just saying people using nokia phones are going to want google services to work at a decent level regardless if its dead S^3 or M$ and people will apreciate it. They can do what ever they want as that is what they are doing already. :smileywink:

Google have constantly updated that app over the years, the N8 wasn't the first model where the app has failed to work prompting google to release a new version to keep people using the service.

The difference is that like google maps the app is greatly inferior to google's own android versions of the apps. They are just good enough to keep people using google's own services without being competition for their android versions. If google wanted they could easily make great Qt versions of those apps as they have the tools to do it but why try to compete with your own platform?

Re: Symbian^3 Google

using google is about as much google services a person would need.

all the other google services can still be accessed over the internet, you shouldnt really complain that they dont have a dedicated app.

Most big companies have no interest in making apps for Symbian. Most developers are from countries that Symbian wasnt big in. And now that the Nokia-Microsoft thing has been announced Symbian is going to die, so don't expect anymore good apps being made by ANYONE.

Re: Symbian^3 Google

I want a Youtube Player with 720p support and Google Maps 5 with 3D buildings.

If Nokia can't make Google provide these features eventualy or make their own support for it, then many people will stop buying Nokia phones.
N8 FW: 022.014 -- Please separate Artist & Albums!
N86 8MP FW: 30.009 -- We need a new FW on this phone!
E51 FW: 410.34.001
E70 FW: 2.0618.07.10 -- Why no v3 for my code?

Re: Symbian^3 Google

maybe Symbian is just too old without changing alot in the UI and performance...

Nokia also lost direction in future development in their OSes... GeOS, Symbian, Maemo, MeeGo etc...

In Indonesia, Nokia been a top1 leader and most of each communicator serie sold in Indonesia, but now Nokia is hardly sell their middle type handset here... Android and iPhone is more fave for most people now...

using google app is easiest when you're using Android phones... symbian has their own style although its a lil bit oldies ;-)
