You would have thought that, given the person who stole the phone can be identified, the police in france could just arrest him and maybe get the phone back ..

Re: Stolen Handset

I know, i called the police but to submit a stolen report I have to go to the police station in person, with proof I own the handset before they can do anything :smileysad:

As for O2 I had another conversation with them and this time they tell me they cant guarantee the IMEI stolen report will make it world wide but because I know the handset is in France and soon to be Russia they are going to do there best for me

Your case, though a civil one, involves Interpol. The reason being you are not a citizen of France. They are generally lax
when it comes to foreigners.

Re: Stolen Handset

Isn't interpol going to the extreme though, I'm getting to the point I can't be bothered anymore, As a last resort I called the British Embassy in France and begged them to help me, they requested a fax of all details and confirmation the phone belongs to me and the French guy I spoke to is personally going to contact O2 for extra clarification and is personally going to the French police on my behalf to see if he can do/say anything to get them to help me, If not I'm just going to write it off

Sorry this isn't a civil case. Theft is not civil. The phone can only be blocked in the UK at the moment, as far as I know, but they are working on making all phones blacklisted throughout the world. Don't know when it will be but they may well have started with Europe so it might be that it can be blacklisted. As for the person who stol the phone, he/she will probably have either sold it or is going to sell it so if the police turned up and did arrest him, there would be no proof. He could just say you are trying to claim on insurance or anything. No proof no prosecution.

Just out of spite I would still carry on trying to get the phone blacklisted wherever possible. Good luck though.
Is that an N95 in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?!?

Re: Stolen Handset

I agree. Just provide the IMEI of the phone and try to inform every network provider in russia so it can be blacklisted. NOTE* This can be done.
Tweets, you're on the right track but a little reminder. In doing so it may cost you your money not to mention time. In these cases it's better to charge it to experience but then again that's just my opinion. If continue to do this and succeed... it may teach the guy a lesson (if he can't use the phone since it's black listed)... making that theif stop what he's doin thus lessening the chances of other people encountering the same case.

Hope it pushes through whatever your choice may be.

Re: Stolen Handset

Well I contacted the French network that I know my so called friend is using whilst in France and they refused to blacklist the handset unless I had a crime ref number from the French police, I called the French police but I can only obtain this by attending a French police station in person which at this moment in time is not possible for me, I might look up the French networks tomorow and drop them an email, if one network blacklists the handset then the others will follow

As for contacting the Russian networks that would be a nightmare. I crossed Russia by train last August and almost every town/city has their own network resulting in quite alot of networks for the whole of Russia, another problem would be the language barrier :smileysad:

Re: Stolen Handset

OUCH! So I guess there's no other option left aside from charging this to our experience.

Re: Stolen Handset

Yup, looks like it

I will try emailing the French networks tommorow and see what happenes. There is only 3 networks in France and two of them is the same as the UK and that is Orange France, maybe I'll get lucky and when Orange UK receive the blacklisting details they will pass it to their partner in France

The other network is SFR which I think Vodaphone is behind so hopefully likewise will happen

When I spoke to O2 they said because the handset was stolen in France and it's still there then then there was a chance that O2 would make sure the relevent information got passed to the French networks, after all what would be the point in blacklisting a handset that was not in the UK and probably never will be

i know people who work in the o2 dept at cpw, they also confirmed it will be blocked only within the uk.

i know loads of people that report their phone lost or stolen and ebay them, they only sell to oversea buyers because the imei bar will not effect the use in another country.

read this - https://www.immobilise.com/phoneblocking.ikml it explain imei bars
