Speed Dial Application missing on Nokia 5800 XM (please help)

Wonder if some kind soul can assist. I recently watned to change one of my speed dial contacts on my 5800 XM (the application where you can define calling a contact via a single number of the keypad). It had been working prefectly before, however now when I go to "Settings", "Calling", the "Speed Dialling" application is now shown with a small shortcut mark on the icon (similar to those on Windows desktop icons).

When I select the speed dialling application, the screen just flashes and then takes me to a my contacts list, where as before it would show a little keypad overview (0-9) indicating which speed dial locations were set and which were still empty. Try as I might, I cannot get this application to work anymore. The presence of the little "shortcut" mark on the icon leads be to believe that the application is missing, as it's the only one of the 5 applications (Call, Speed Dialling, Call Mailbox, Call Divert and Call Barring) that has this mark.

Weirdly, speed dialling still operates for the positions that I had previously defined, including "1" for voicemail ?

Does anyone have any idea what's going on and how to sort this please, as I have some applications installed on the Phone and don't really want to go though the procedure of installing them all again if I can help it ?.

Re: Speed Dial Application missing on Nokia 5800 XM (please help)

As no one seems to know the answer to this question, I thought I might try reinstalling the firmware (30.0.011) or doing a hard reset. I've backed up everything (including the memory card) using the application from the Nokia PC Suite.

One question though, If I do a reinstall of the firmware or a hard reset, then restore my backup, will the phone work exactly as before. i.e. not only will all my contacts drop back in, but will all the programs and the sat nav program I installed work straight away, or will I have to re-install everything again ?

Any assistance would be very much apprecaited.

Oh, finally, I have seen a number of comments surrounding a later firmware than 30.0.011, but I've tried through the phones built in updater and also the Nokia PC suite updater, and both say that I have the latest firmware. I'm in the UK if that makes any difference ?

Kind regards

Re: Speed Dial Application missing on Nokia 5800 XM (SOLUTION)

Hi there! I think I can help you. I had exactly the same problem you described. When I selected the "Speed Dial" application ("Marcação rápida", in portuguese), the screen used to blink and nothing were shown. Reading you post made me realize that we could have a broken contact assigned there. I removed ll the contacts from the speed dial and it get back to work!!  But how it could be possible if the application just couldn't be opened? Do the following: Select any contact you know that have a phone number assigned to the spped dial, then edit it's details. Select the phone number we are talking about (it has a icon on the right side) and choose "options". There you'll find something like "remove from speed dial". Try to open the application again. Do that until you find the broken contact and you'll get it working. You can find other ways to do this, like choose any contact, go the phone number and then in "options", try to "assigne speed dial". There you'll see all the numbers (it opened to me even with the screen blinking). I noticed the broken contact was the one wich did not have a icon on the left side, but just a name. Change it and tell us if it worked. : ))

Re: Speed Dial Application missing on Nokia 5800 XM (please help)

My homescreen shorcuts to Dial and Contacts were not working, my solution wont fix the problem with the other shortcuts but Dial and Contacts are going to work again;

Go To;

Settings

-Personal

--Home Screen

---Home screen theme

----Choose Contact Bar

Done, your shortcuts are working now.
