Re: Should I buy a n97

No! don't buy it...

I am a N82 user and also think that Nokia device is good in design and quality (at least it is true for my N82). However, when I change to N97, I was totally disappointed. I can least a few points here.

1. Photo quality is bad compare with N95/N82 and the camera lens cover scratch the lens.

2. Some white light may "flood" the photo when LED flash is on. (especially in dark enviroment)

3. Poor GPS receiption compare with other phones like N95 and N82

4. Speaker phone is not usable(You can hear others but others cannot hear you)

5. Music Player unable to add song to the Playlist even the MP3s are in your 32GB Mass storage

6. Ovi suite transfer the music to the phone and shows they are there, but you cannot find them in the music player

7. Photos just taken may not appear in the photo album. (There may be few minutes of delay or won't appear forever!)

8. Completely not stable compare with N82 or N95

9. Sports tracker is pulled. (The sports tracker website shows it support N97, but you will never found the application for N97)

10. C: memory leak over time. (Only Hardreset fix the problem)

11. Lots of problem when C: memory below 30MB

12. Compass is difficult to use (10 times more difficult to use compare with iPhone 3Gs)

13. The side lock button will be fail if you turn on your phone with USB plugged.

14. The hands free is made of the cheapest plastic I have saw and scratched out of the box

.... any problem you found in the N97 forum, you may face, it is a matter of how long and how much you use the device

Finally, I sold this N97 because OVI Store lost my paid apps, and the Care hotline just blame me that I Do the hard reset and cause the app lost in the OVI Store. They won't take any responsibility! They are not helpful at all and I no longer trust Nokia any more.

For the above problems, you can find most of the solutions in this forum, but you have to spent many time... Good luck.

Re: Should I buy a n97

One more thing to add, there are problems in sync the contact and calender to Outlook, duplicate contacts and calender record were all over. lost telephone number, first name / last name swap. All shots of problem. I have to delete it one by one. This is the worse experience I use such smart device.

My contact list and calender was sync perfectly from  Nokia 6210 -- > Palm --> LG8310 --> N70 --> N80 --> N82, no problem in all transaction at all, but all in a mess when sync to N97

Re: Should I buy a n97

N97 is my last Nokia's mobile. Shame on Nokia Software R&D. The OS consider the worst in the market (at least for me). I've tried on Palm, Blackberry and HP. I found out Windows OS is the most stable and widely accepted. Symbian after all unstable.

If you expect to upgrade your system frequently, and having some technical problem out from nowhere, then go ahead. I faced this once, the phone turned off and can't reopen. If I not mistaken, all I did is just change the wallpaper. I need to take out the battery, leave it for 1 days ( after few attempts to turn on the phone after 10 mins), change to use my old phone. After a day, the phone just work fine. I've checked, my OS is the latest that available. RIDICULOUS, after paying that much for a stupid phone.

The battery life, is not what I expected. Off course, I turned my content to online mode, the battery will finished in 7-8 hours times, with no calling or receiving calls. All i do is just checking my email, checking the stock markets and visit some News site.

Conclusion, very disappointed.  This will be my last Nokia's phone.
