At last I got N96 in my Hand on 10th September 2008. This is the only one piece final version of N96 in our country until 12th September. But unfortunately my device has some problem, so that I need to turn back to the shop keeper & waiting for our country’s Nokia Store to buy that again. They hope it will arrive on 15-17th of September. After playing 12 hours of N96 I have some personal review to share with other members of our Nokia’s discussion page.
In my opinion it’s worth upgrade from N95 8GB to N96. Some people said before this is not worthy to switch N96 from N95/8GB. Definitely they were wrong about this point. Let me explain
N96 Display is better than N95 8GB. (I have N95 8GB).
N96 video playback is better than N95 8GB & produce more natural color & great sound of video playback.
Screen rotation is faster than N95/8GB/N82
Os is faster
Wmv is also plus point
Sliding is better than N95/8GB
Battery life is more than N95 8GB in some respect
It has UDP
Dual LED can use as torch light
It can play flash video, so no need 3rd party software (Though N95/8GB v30 also can play)
It has massive memory which is one of the most Important to me
***Another most important thing is Audio quality. It has superb audio quality. In my opinion it has better sound quality than mighty N91/8GB (I also have N91 8GB) at last so long after I can put my N91 8GB in my showcase. Even N91 8GB has louder sound than N96. N96 full volume = N91 70%-75% (approximately)
It has more bass & crystal clear vocal than N91. But when I use full volume of N91 that time I like the N91 8GB more than N96. Still N91 is one of the best music devices (IMO).
There also have more advantage than N95 like 3.5mm jack point position, speaker position, but in my short review I don’t want to make long.
I also find some disadvantages: I found camera on N95 is better than N96 even it has dual Led but not so powerful. I think N95 8GB’s single LED has 70-80% brighter of N96’s Dual LED. Navi wheel is not working, I found in the internet that Nokia decided to stop that in final version. I don’t like this decision of Nokia. I hope they will change it.
About kick stand of N96 I feel some tension. I think it can broke easily.

Nice review. I have an N91 8gb and its really rocking. Many times i thought of changing the phone but because of its excellent walkman sound quality i still could not change my phone. Now im planning to buy N96 but im a bit confused from your review. First you said that N96 100% Volume = N91 70%-75% volume. But in the end you said " when i play n91 on full volume it is loud " what is the exact figures man? leaveing aside all other comparrisons is n96 best in sound quality than the n91? and more over n96 is using the same stupid headphones which came with n95 they dont even sound good. Im really confused please explain......

Third icon down on the toolbar when in video mode.

The light only actually comes on if the camera is rolling.

Hi vaqar,
He meant N96's Highest volume is equivalent to 70 percent loudness of N91 (Meant 3 steps backward on the volume rocker of the N91).
But when N91 is played at its loudest volume (full 100 percent-I am pretty much sure-it'll cause damage of hearing and it pushed EU to produce V.R..)it will be felt like you are in a soundgarden.

But N96 is bassy, and treble is sharp-most probably reaz vaid meant it. Will check it.

Equalizer bands are also a factor, reaz, how many bands N96 does have? 5 or 8?
10 band equalizer based music phones/DAPs are being produced.

sorry for the delay to answer. Cause unfortunately few days before I was hijacked at midnight & they took my N91 8gb. I was busy with police to find out my n91. But fortunately bless of Allah that night i left my n96 at home. Anyway, n96 full volume power is equivalent of n91's 70-75% volume lavel. So it means n91's volume lavel is more higher/ powerfull than any other mobile in the market. N96 has 8 band of equalizer like n91/n95 . But comes with that stupid lower grade n95's headphone. 10 band eq based mobile is produced? Which model? Very goodnews.

Btw, n96's loudspeaker vol is louder than n91's.

I listen iphone for very short time. So at now cant make sure. I will again check that.
N96's loud speaker is much louder than n91. But n95/8gb, n73 is louder than the n96 via loud speaker.
Not yet got my n91. Hope i will get that soon Insha Allah.

Do you say iPhone has louder volume than N96 (In Ear)?
But how about Audio quality? Does iPhone surpasses N96 in audio quality too?

Nah iphones audio quality isnt good, but ,we were talking about the headphone volume, and that volume comparison was b/w iphone and n91, and ofcourse, if its louder than n91 then its louder than n96 too.
But Ear speaker volume, i dont know which ones louder because i havent compared any of that.
If you want loudspeaker comparison then
n96>n91>=iphone

Thanks for your clarification guys. It seems nothing is going to match the mean sound machine N91. But why nokia is doing this its really funny. I really never ever want to get rid of my n91 just for this excellent feature. Oh by the way may Allah help you in finding your n91 really felt sorry to hear that. Well tomorrow im gona buy the n96 but will still keep the n91. I hope the sound quality of n96 is not as **bleep** as the n95 which were a total waste
of money... What do you think is it atleast better than the n73 and n95 through headphones?

Actually i said N91 is louder than any other phone in the market via Headphone(Ear phone).Even iphone or n96 is not loud as n91 by headphone. But from loud speaker n96 is much louder than n91 & iphone.
But N73 & N95/8GB is more louder than n96 via loud speaker. Not by headphone(Ear phone). More over N96's sound quality is much much better than n73me/n95/8GB.

Oh by the way is there any freezing problems in n96 software like the n95 always used to freez over nothing..

let me buy n96 today inshallah and i will write a complete sound review or upload a video regarding both n91 and n96 walkman sound quality on youtube...

And for all iphone users if you are looking for ultimate sound through headphones go for n91 as it has beaten every single music device on earth... And ofcourse still rules...

loudspeaker of n96 is lower than n95 but its sound quality is better.

N yeah to claim n91 the best out there, i bet you havent tried much of any phones out there(except nokia?).
n91's head phone volume is loud but its sound quality is nothing to be happy about. If sound quality's your priority, then w980i will win over. Its got the best sound quality in phones, and almost close to ipod quality(n even beats it in some aspects).

Also n96's sound quality is much better than n91's. Be sure to use the same headphone when comparing.

LOL sony erricson??? Its the only phone which say it is a music phone but actually its nothing but a piece of **bleep**... please do a little research and then have a discussion, Just surf the net and see 90% people say that n91 is best as a walkman phone... the rest 10% have erricson,,,
Apart from all other features just take sound in consideration, I may agree that sone erricson may sound good but may be u did not try n91 although its regulat headphones are not up to the mark but still they give a lot to rock. Im using shure v-moda vibe head phones with n91 and man they sound great togather,,,

I have tried both, n trust me, i only talk about experience. Seeing you here, its natural for you to be a nokia fan and support it with all you can, but i have heard n91 more than enough, and done live comparison, not just me but lots of my friends too.
n91 is loud but its sound quality isnt really what you could hype for. Try n81, that itself would be better Plus not sure about the loudness.
So, i think i will stop here, cuz it might start into another flame war or some sort.

Just bought the N96 today and man it looks awsome...
Well the sound through headphones is good... I thing in some songs it sounds 90% like the n91. But i felt that over all the 100% volume is around 78% that of N91's. Quality wise the sound is pretty good with quiet impressive bass...
As far as sound through external speakers is concerned yes it is less than the n73 and the n95 but mind you not too much...
N96 is really weightless and sleek...
Well one thing i want to know is how to activate the touch dial jog option for the centeral navigation pad???
It freezes some times if we are doing multi tasking but we all know this is a part of nokia that we have to live with. Over all the mobile is really worth it... Gona keep it for a long time... And yes N91 without any dought is still the loudest and the sharpest sounding phone out there no matter what...
