Severe problem with SMS on Nokia N80 after software update!

I am having a very bad problem!
Since I used the Nokia Software Updater software to update my N80 to 4.0632.0.38 I have been having problems with text messages. Although GPRS configuration messages come through, all other standard texts dont come through, unless I restart my phone. This problem has happened on Vodafone and on 3 network, so I know its not a network problem. What should I do?

Re: More Information - Formatting the phone

If you haven't already done this it may be worth a try

Format the phone:
/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=4007

Although you updated the firmware already you may have some corrupt file or setting that has caused this issue on the phone.

Backup you contacts/data to PC first (as always).

Best Regards,

Gerry

Given all the reasonable effort you have given on this issue, you should take the phone to a Nokia Service Centre in your area or just get it replaced by your network operator.

I'm assuming its still within warranty.

Cheers

Re: More Information - Formatting the phone

It sounds to me like the SMS settings have been lost. You might get these from somewhere on the support part of this site (follow the link in the top right) or you may have to check with your network, either via their website or telephone support.

I suppose I´ll have to take it in then.

Is there no other option because my nearest service point is so far away I´m not sure its worth making a special trip their.

I´m in the UK by the way, if that helps.

Nokia warranty in the UK is 24 months - can your N80 really be that old?

Re: More Information - Formatting the phone

I have the same (sms-messages arrive only after reboot, mms works ok) problem now with N80, after the firmware update to 4.0632.0.38. I will try updating to even newer firmware, but I doubt it helps. Does Nokia staff have something to say to this problem??

Re: More Information - Formatting the phone

I guess installing the SMS accelrator could cause the problem you're having. I beleive this fix was embedded in the 4.06.032 and later firmware. By installing the SMS accelrator you can have unpredictable results.

Re: More Information - Formatting the phone

It started for me when I updated to 4.06.032 (or something around that time), and then I updated again to 4.0707.0.7 which has made no difference. I then installed SMS accellerator and that too made no difference.

Re: More Information - Formatting the phone

Hi,

My friend is having similar problem .. sometimes messages just simply do not arrive when they should, reboot recovers the situation temporarily.

How often you guys actually have to reboot the phone because of this? Sounds very irritating bug..

If I remember correctly, he also mentioned that switching to Offline profile and back to General helped once, but not sure.. Maybe you should try that out?
