Am I just being pernickety or does anybody else think the screen rotation could be a lot better than it is on Nokia's.

The problem I have with the N97 "the phone I'll be using" is that when you turn the phone from say landscape to portrait the sceen goes blank and reappears in portrait orientation. I want to see the on screen contents spinning, they need to add some animation, like it with the photo browser. The Omnia HD which uses the same OS seems to have better animation than the N97.
Get a grip Nokia you have a fantastic phone here great ideas and great features but the overall experience is way off. That wow factor is definatly missing.

I was trying to find out how to do it in the photo browser then, then I realised you mean when you press "rotate image". And yeah that is a nice animation, why the hell cant every screen do that on roate?
And while I'm at it, the web browser, iPlayer and Palringo all have kinetic scrolling. Why doesn't the rest of the phone??

I have to agree.
The current transition effect on rotation is only a fade-out/fade-in which is nowhere near as "cool" as those animated widgets coming out of the screen, rotating and then falling back into the screen that were in the promotional videos.

I don't know but it's the little things like that that just make the whole package feel more complete. It looks more like a direct iPhone competitor with those crazy tilty animations.. and it's the kind of thing that clicks in your brain and makes you think "that's pretty impressive".
The N97 can do bloody everything, it just needs to look more stylish while it's doing it.

N97 had all the cool transition effects and iphone like rotation, and widgets opened and closed quite cool, and they cut every thing off right before the release, I hope they are redoing it in a more stable way if not than that would mean that the phone is too weak to handle it and I probably will look other direction.

As a previous user of iPhone, i should say all the graphical effects of apple is wayyyy more superior of Nokia. but why i chose to get N97 was :
1) No Multi tasking on iPhone
2) No Name Display (in canada we have name display + phone display so if someone calls u wo is not in your phone list, you still can see his name on your phone)
3) No real Bluetooth, no data transfering , no wireless stereo headset
4) No Full keyboard
everything else in iPhone is wayyy better.
